Re: The Coddling of the American Mind
Everyone thinks their childhood was the best. Yes, but this is different -- it's not just people being curmudgeons and complaining that "kids these days" aren't subject to as much physical labor as them, or have more conveniences. It's college professors, mental health professionals, etc....

Re: The Coddling of the American Mind
I grew up on the tail end of Gen X; my parents had rules about how far I could ride my bike alone at different ages, starting with being able to ride to the neighborhood school (a block away) when I was like 6, and escalating to "anywhere in the city, but tell us where you're going first" ...

Re: Why we love Trump
From a FB friend who absolutely despises Trump: I subscribe to the theory that Trump's popularity is not because people actually like him or think he'd make a good president or even necessarily agree with his political beliefs. Rather, it's that they've hit a breaking point with the overly sensitive...

I haven't noticed any difference in public behavior.
There are plenty of shops around. No indication that there's been any significant increase in crime. Some issues with smuggling out of state. Great tax revenue. I don't know anyone who's done anything stupid as a result.

To clarify: the "I did it my way" package should come with 3 ship tokens, and will automatically get the torch when it's unlocked (whenever that is -- probably within the next couple weeks, given the uptick in funding when alpha went live.) So that's 4 total ships available at launch. (Sil...

Hey slick, you do realize that if strict gun control laws just like the ones you are regularly pushing for had existed back in the 1700's, we would still be paying taxes to the royal family. no, I don't realize that, because I never once mentioned taking a single weapon away from any mentally stabl...

Pumo, what are your system specs? I can give you a good idea of whether or not you can run it based on the current specs of people who have been playing.
Generally speaking you need a dual-core 2.5 GHz or faster processor, 8 GB ram, and like a GTX-560 or above to run it on minimum settings.

I think you are both missing the boat, while raising valid points. Yes, the idea of mental health component to the screening process has to be thought through, and CANNOT be slap-dashed onto current law And since that's what we've been discussing, I don't know why I'm missing the boat. You can't ex...

Re: What was that about white privilege not existing?
What the video game scenario shows is that privilege can take many forms. You can start with better gear or boosted stats, which makes it easier to get more better gear, which pretty much puts you ahead of the curve for the whole game -- there's no presumption of an equal start point. There's also n...

If you meant "popular vote" (like, they voted more than 50%) say that. But if you meant "unanimous" (100%), that's a fake result. You never get 100% agreement on anything with more than just a handful of people voting.sigma wrote:by a unanimous vote
