Many people have received that same error message because many copies of D3 sold in the US were actually the Australian version. According to Valin, it will. The 1.5 patch will bump the number of custom models allowed, so conflicts such as the Mercenary/OG3 one should be a thing of the past :D.

Santrix, D2 runs fine for me on XP without D2X. Try it out and see how it works. Just remember to put the game in 800x600 resolution to get around the framerate issue.

Veterans Stadium was finally imploded this morning. That place held a lot of memories for the city of Philadelphia, one of the most poignant being Tug McGraw's World-Series-winning pitch in 1980.
