What credit is it exactly that you think we should give Bush? My problem with Bush isn't that I think he is a racist, my problem is that I think he is radically conservative. See? You're making my point. Bush selects an extremely moderate Republican to be secretary of state -- a figure well liked a...

I hope that Abbas emerges as the leader. If he gets killed by militants, there will be hot war before we see any peace. On the other hand, if the moderates do gain control, there may be a real shot at peace, via the plan Bush laid out in June '02. The missing ingredient is Palestinian leadership. If...

Edwards was far from useless. During the primary, he was the only one who stuck to positive messages and put forward a clear vision. The Dems just weren't ready to back him on the whole, but he sure did surprise a lot of folks by coming in second. Meanwhile, Dean and Gephardt went down in flames in ...

Usama speaks, should we listen? Hell no. Although the election is over as of this writing, my advice to voters is to ignore Bin Laden and vote the same way you were already planning to vote. UBL is unworthy of our fear or loathing. What he is worthy of is our attention in the form of bringing him to...

Uncannily accurate? Unforgettable games, easy to remember the details. 8) Memory is one of my strongest assets. It's how I could turn games around after falling down 0 to 5 and such. I'd remember every move the opponent made, and any move they made too often would be turned into a liability for them...

I do remember that, Tyr. Was it 5 zip or 6 zip? I think it was 6. Not my biggest-ever comeback, though. Voyager got up on me 8 to 0 once and I came back. I did a LOT of that. It's one reason I never got attracted to Case's Ladder for anything serious. A game to ten? Heck, at six points I may be just...

Speaking of Jedi and Nysa... I remember both of my Nysa games with Jedi. One was his first IDL match. I should have gotten a busdriver for it, but he hadn't officialized what was clearly his home level as yet. The second... I had my A game on that second time. 8) Jedi, do you remember those matches?...

My first game of Minerva was with Descentile. I got down 0-6 before I had any clue about the layout, then we battled fairly evenly from there. Gosh, that was September 1996, I think. My first Busdriver award on the IDL came in Min2. The story of that can be found in the War Journal. http://idl.warpc...

People create drama in whatever they do. Small, sleepy towns with nothing to them get dramatic over who sleeps with who, who worked more hours than who, who got a new broom/shovel/yard decoration/lawnmower. People need stuff to blab about and to get emotional over. A game's as good any other excuse....

Many fans are upset with Major League Baseball because money to buy more talent resides with certain teams. The playing field is not level. This diminishes the sport for all involved. Sure, if you're a Yankees fan, their 28 (?) World Series titles seems cool, but how cool is it when you also factor ...

FOX News had about 7 million per night during the RNC, about 5 million per night per broadcast network, and 5 million for the rest of cable news combined. Broadcast News = 15+ million per night, Cable News = 12+ million per night. Still perfectly legitimate to cite broadcast news as the most watched...

One of the secrets behind the #300baud mission packs (and the chief reason why they perform so much better than Steel Vapor) is the compartmentalization of the levels. Most of the time, each player is receiving only a portion of the packets, as the server only sends packets from those you might be a...

Monsterball issues: * Having everyone in the same room at the same time is hard on even broadband connects, if the game is too large. * Might want to play Veins or perhaps that smaller set with the tunnelled levels, as a result. * Dialup players should not play at all. Sorry, but that's the harsh tr...

Are we going to be able to lock the game on one level this week? Or will it be rotating again? If rotating, we could start on Level 4. If locked, we could pick almost any level. (Maybe try locking on Level 8 again?) As for setting up teams, the chief screwup is players not respecting time out during...

I can handle any 3BE level and don't mind naturally cycling through them, but some are more popular than others, and some are better suited to different team sizes. (Levels 4-7 do better with a full 5v5). If the server is running on auto, it may not be fully coordinated to what is best for the playe...

Solo are we on for this Tuesday? 3BE level 8 all night long? (Going with Iceman's suggestion to stick with one level per night, for those who don't know the levels chosen). Well I suggested levels 8 and 9 for next week. Level 8 is fairly compact (for a 3BE level) and level 9 has only four bases per side. Or if people prefer (and we're going to be respawning the server after each game) we COULD pick a single level to focus on each week, and play it over and over. Would ...
