Losing Joystick config going from level to level

What it says on the tin. Any joystick configuring I do from the main menu isn't available in the game, I actually have to be in the level and then configure my joystick for the settings to take effect. I lose the settings again and have to redo them when going to the next level. Any ideas? Running t...

D1 Soundtrack

I saw a video on youtube the other day of a guy playing D1, and the MIDI synth was awesome. But it wasn't MIDI synth, he said it was actually CD audio. I assume he was getting that from the PS or MAC version of the game? Is this true? If so, is there anyway to get it over onto the PC?

Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

Anybody have this joystick and use it for D1,2, or 3? I just ordered it because I finally gave up on trying to find a way to use my MS 3d pro since I no longer have a gameport, and my Vortex2 doesn't work in Vista x64.

This game is stupid fun. I personally love the graphics in the game; the fact that it is somewhat cartoonish does not take away from the quality of the visuals at all. If you like squad-based shooters and aren't stuck on having something comparable to the Battlefield series, this is what you should ...

I knew there had to be some reason.

Interestingly, I threw in a Vortex2 card into my A64 machine and have been playing D2 on one of my 3DP and works really well, no hiccups yet.

Maybe it is card dependent ??

Just a wild thought here.... Has anybody tinkered around with just adding an old/cheap PCI soundcard to your PC, in addition to what you might already be using for sound? Seems like in most cases this wouldn't cause too much of a conflict, since most apps will let you select which sound device you w...

Hmmmmm..... hope everything is alright with KB.

You can put me down for one unit, fully assembled.

If it's not too late, that is.

Well I just purchased my first 3D Pro off of ebay, new in box. I'm hoping that it replace my Logitech Wingman Extreme as the my stick of choice.

Started playing in '95 with Descent shareware, eventually bought the full thing. Logged some major hours on my AMD K5-100, running Descent 2 over KaliDOS. Never did much with Descent3. I'm 25 now.

You don't have any mapped network drives by chance, do you? I've seen instances where it would take up to a minute just to spit out basic functions of the OS, because it would try to scan or reconnect to those drives, but would not be able to do so quickly due to a connectivity or name resolution pr...

Top Gun: I wasn't aware of that. It's just that with the 3 8-way hat sticks I've owned (Gravis Firebird 2, Gravis Blackhawk Digital, Logitech Wingman 3D), it hasn't worked that way, or at least I couldn't get it to work that way. All I would ever use the hat for in descent is sliding. Any suggestion...

MSCONFIG, perhaps? I can't understand why resetting the bios the defaults would help anything.... after all, it's a laptop (right?), and they aren't exactly known for putting all sorts of tweakable settings in the BIOS. Instead you reset stuff like the boot order, HDD autodetect, and whatnot. But an...

8-way hats

I've held off for a long time now buying a new stick because of the 8-way hats. 4-way hats seem to be a much better fit to me in descent because you can map each of those four buttons to a function. However, with an 8-way hat, the diagonal directions become deadspots, and that was something that I c...

Thanks for the links. I remember when I went to Babbage's to buy Forsaken, they actually gave me a SpaceOrb for free with the game. I spent a while getting used to the SpaceOrb's controls, and after a while I decided that I liked it. Now they're selling a SpaceOrb on ebay for $100! Insanity. Never c...

Whoa.. that is cool. I already have an AWE64 Gold, but of course, you can't plug it into any modern system because it's ISA. I've always been partial to the EMU8K synthesis in the old AWE cards. If I can do as you say, then that seems like the way to go. Thanks!

Anybody still play Forsaken?

Just wondering if anybody still played Forsaken. I can't find much on the web about it, it obviously doesn't have the same following that Descent does. If anybody knows of any decent sites pertaining to Forsaken, could you post them? Thanks.

Do you think that the wavetable sythesis is better that, say, an old school sound blaster live?

Good MIDI sound card?

Hello.

I'm thinking of getting a PCI soundcard with a gameport, and I also want something thats good at MIDI synthesis, like in the old days using General MIDI on an AWE32. It may even be a standard feature in cards these days. Anybody have any recommendations on what's good for this?
