Using shader programs in Descent 1/2 is possible, but not with the Rebirth code base.

A better approach would be to add an entirely new renderer as well as a modern physics and networking library. Again, you'd need a better code base than Rebirth though.

D2X-XL and coronas

With high corona quality, D2X-XL can slow to a crawl on certain hardware (ATI). There is a reason to that: D2X-XL tries to do some \"DX 10 soft particle\" style blending of the coronas with geometry in front of them using a shader program. In order to accomplish that, after having rendered the geome...

Unreal has a glow filter, D2X-XL coronas are hacked, pseudo-volumetric lights. Simple glow is not what I wanted to go for. Actually full, per pixel volumetric light is what I want (but not with that engine). As Wolfie wrote, here coronas are completely out of whack. That's not why I am saying the le...

If someone pirates a game and never buys it doesn't mean the company loses money. Most people who pirate would not buy the game to start with so they aren't losing money. Oh yeah, the worklog doesn't yet mention the $bullets submodel (2 faces, 4 vertices like the gunpoints, normal must point towards the ejection direction of bullet casings). Put it slightly inside the model of a gun ejecting bullet cases.
