Modern monitor useful for old dos games

Alright so I have an older computer set up to play old dos games such as doom, terminal velocity, etc. But the problem I am currenly having is neither one of my monitors can display lower res screens in proper aspect ratio. So I was hoping someone here might know of a modern monitor in the 24 inch r...

Boy that sure is....something else.

But I was hoping for something more along the lines of a small tower. Hell, even just a good motherboard, ram, and processor and I'll stick it in one of the empty cases I have laying around here.

Same reason people still look for old SNES consoles when they can run 100% of all games available for it on an emulator.

Looking for an old 486

I'm looking at trying to pick up and get into service a real retro gaming machine, and rather than deal with ebay and people I don't know, I figured I'd ask here where people I know hang out. Would like to get one in the DX 66MHz range with an actual Sound Blaster 16, turbo button to slow it way dow...

Re: Hands On With Descent

You're using guass and the guidebot in D1 levels. Sorry, I can't watch this. Those are two of my least favorite things that D2 included. Gauss because it's so overpowered that you simply must use it, and the guidebot because the levels are so large they ceased to be intuitive. To each his own though...

Re: Going Rambo on D1 level 6 (And other levels)

Personally, if I were judging the validity of a run done on a modern version, I would have to consider if the original behaved in the same way. In this case, the original had one shot fusion reactor kills, so I would say that any version that had that would be valid for speedrunning so long as the n...

Yeah, forgot about that. My bad. Just have to finish with less than or equal to what you normally start a level with.

Maybe rotate through all the weapon buttons to get the "You don't have the whatever weapon/missile" to pop up as further proof if doing this on camera.

Re: Going Rambo on D1 level 6 (And other levels)

Also regarding secret levels, I think they need to be given a special exception from the "cold start" rule, in that you will have played through the levels they connect in. However, you should end those levels with a death so that you start the secret level with the base loadout. Also the fact that ...

Excellent cloak route at the start. You could save a few seconds at the end by positioning yourself nearer the exit shaft as you kill the reactor and the two red hulks that guard it.

I agree, level 9 is worse. I didnt try it seriously yet, because Im lazy to find a good route. And even if I find something, it would be really hard and lucky to make satisfying run. I have a route that is pretty reliable when it comes to bot-roam, but I doubt it could be used in a speed-run. I nev...

Re: Ok, Descent 2 is officially easier than 1 on Ace.

The biggest change in difficulty between d1 and d2 is that in D2 you need to manage your vulcan ammo. Where the vulcan cannon in d1 only had occasional fringe use with the other 4 carrying a relatively balanced load, the guass cannon in d2 is the true workhorse gun of your arsenal with everything el...

Spike is to D2 what the vulcan driller was to d1: a quick and sudden difficulty spike that would more often than not leave you dead if you don't know where they are and where to shoot around the corner. The bullets can track around corners too, and they have a range that's surprisingly long, especia...

Re: Going Rambo on D1 level 6 (And other levels)

Yeah the thing about level 8 is that it just takes so much cooperation from the bots to have a chance of a death free run. The lack of Quad Lasers also means that, depending on the route, you're either going to be doing most of the run with plain lasers, or trying to get the bots to cooperate and le...
