If you're using D2X-XL there's an option in d2x.ini that turns off all briefings. Don't know if you are and don't remember if it's default but I think it might have been.

I've noticed the same LW. All you really need to do, though, is be mindful of where you put your light sources -- instead of spraying it all over the walls -- to make your mark.

True, but the one setting is tied inextricably to the other in DLE. (I assume that D2X-XL's transparency must be an extension of the cloak property).
Take a look at the cloak level on level 3's walls if you're not sure about that.

Being able to see into secrets without having to look for them is a pretty big advantage I think. :P If XL wants to take a ridiculous time to load you might have got lightmaps on... The vanilla engine does have transparency capability -- just look at the "glass" walls in the boss room in the last level of TEW. It wasn't used in the actual game levels but the capability is there, though very limited (it can render a texture or transparency on a wall but not both). Which is exact...

I'll give it a Rebirth playthrough once I'm sure the level's working and I've got the balance I'm looking for down. Yeah, it's kind of all held together by the Baloris textures but there's a lot more than that as well. And my vision for the robot population involves lots and lots of Puuma Spiders... basically I wanted it to be brown but not Quake 2. :D The plan is for it to use the Descent.pig to give the D2 text...

Are you sure you haven't got one of those DXAs with recorded versions of the midi files? Sometimes that screws up custom midi songs. The midis play for me. EDIT: Played through the levels to make sure of that -- I really think the enemy placement is off; the pacing of the mission as it is right now ...

I just updated the main HOG with the fix for level 1, and added the midi music for levels 1-5 too. :D No SNG yet (so the level 5 track won't play till there is one).
42's nearly finished, and so's my new music track...

If you're playing it in xl the door will be high-res too. I didn't import textures into dle that were already in xl's main high-res set, cuz if I do that for every map the file size will be through the roof.

Could be, and it's nice to dream, but I don't think it's likely to actually happen -- at least not in time. May have to settle for the damage upgrade. And remember those trainee players probably can't even dodge D2's homers.

Did it myself to record ONP with the MIDI tracks I liked, duplicate names surely work - I selected 3 tracks I like most and assigned them to the levels via my own sng file the way I liked. Yeah, I do believe you can duplicate file names in the sng to have them play in the right order. Pretty sure TEW must have done it to give level 25 and 26 their own midi tracks.

I didn't mess with your textures, what I did was switch them to the high-res versions which makes the palette irrelevant -- XL reads the colours for tga textures out of the image itself. I would definitely say Boarsheds should be held off till at least the midpoint of our mission X, this is one of those mechs that's deadly to an unskilled player on any difficulty (probably the best example of that in the vanilla game, even) and there's no point scaring off the trainee players before...

I remember the D1 strategy guide saying the best strategy was vulcan and being prepared to take one hit. I've always preferred either plasma + ducking around corners or charging them from behind with spreadfire and missiles.

Wouldn't be the first one. Dan's (I think) name for level 16 of Descent Maximum was Temple to Syrinx. Which, I think, is a Rush song. But Fold Zandura's a band and we're using that one too!
