Re: Least Favorite Levels

Any levels that take more than 30 hours of attempting to beat on insane, cold start, full rescue, over 100+ hp at exit.

That's the point where I drop the 100+ hp requirement and just play to survive it. So far in D1, Munition's R&D 2 and from D2 TEW level 25 was those I had to do that.

I tried with 0.58 and it works. So it's definitely a dxx-rebirth problem...

I will check with the latest build to see if it works...

EDIT: Nope it doesn't I need to report a bug.

Is there a recent version of Apocalyptic Factor that doesn't have glitches in d2x-rebirth?

I downloaded AF from DMDB some months ago (link: http://www.enspiar.com/dmdb/viewMission.php?id=418). The af.txt says there is a lot of briefing, but none of them shows up in Rebirth. The bosses in level 3 stand still and doesn't move... After seeing it in a video they should move. I haven't reached...

Re: Impressions on Descent: Insane, cold start, no-death, 100%

What I do consider cheating though, is using markers to keep doors open. This is clearly a side effect, since I'm pretty convinced markers are supposed to be immaterial. If you really want to keep doors open, use proximity bombs. They last a lot longer in D2 then they did in D1, so it'll definitely...

Re: Impressions on Descent: Insane, cold start, no-death, 100%

I had a realization though - the midi music in D1 contributed greatly to the identity and atmosphere of each level, and only having the 4 midi tracks in D2 is hugely detrimental. That's why I liked Calmarius' runs, where he somehow got the D1 midis to play in D2 levels. I unfortunately don't know h...

Re: Impressions on Descent: Insane, cold start, no-death, 100%

Xfing, about the music in D2, I am not a fan of 4 repeating tracks, too. But Calmarius said somewhere that he plays without music and then just adds the music track he likes in video editor. ... Egosurfing brought me here. My first runs were played in the original DOS game in DosBox. It could recor...

Re: Idea for a Counterstrike playthrough

I remember once, running out of earthshakers, finishing the final boss off with smart missiles, whose blobs are energy-based. (This was on Descent Maximum, where they don't give you nearly the same number of earthshakers across the campaign.) Indeed I was wrong. I tried to use energy weapons agains...

Re: Funny stuff I've noticed about the D1 Final Boss

The descent final boss has behavior is rather interesting indeed. First the boss has a lair, which includes all cubes one can move from the boss' initial location. The boss spawns robots into these cubes randomly until a certain number is reached, also the boss uses these cubes to teleport to. So th...

As far as I know the final boss is completely immune to energy weapons.

Re: Idea for a Counterstrike playthrough

It depends on the difficulty setting... On insane difficulty I needed to score 6 direct hits with Earthshakers into the final boss' back to destroy it. This means damage from the main blast and all separation blobs once... Six times... I'm not sure if unloading your entire load of smarts and megas d...

Links to descent tools are broken.

This is the only site that lists descent tools:

http://www.descent2.com/tools/

But every links are broken without exception.

This means the tools are not available on the internet anymore: not even google can find them.

Anybody here have these tools so we can put them back online?

Re: How to run D2 in DOSBox with a CD image?

Use the following command to mount an iso:

imgmount d <path to iso file name> -t iso

If you want to mount your physical drive use:

MOUNT D <CD drive letter>:\ -t cdrom

Re: It's a trap! (D2 LV. 15)

When the force fields lock you in, turn right and that panel will release the field. You ain't gonna need to go back to there. Don't waste too much time grab the inv. and rush out of the area with full throttle because a lot of powerful mechs and seekers are released. You'll need that inv. to get pa...

Re: Your favorite levels ever

My personal favorite is 'Cubik' from the 'levels of the world' collection.

I like the 3D 'Nine Men's Morris' table level design and the strong blue color of the outer frame.
