One assumes that if the atmosphere on Mars was once dense enough to support liquid water - even if only for a geologically brief period (half a billion years?) - then the atmosphere went somewhere. Given that geologic processes are unlikely to drop atmospheric pressure from a maximum of 600 Millibar...

How's the CPU seated? It seems unlikely, but if the thermal interface material is toasted, then the CPU temperature would sky-rocket within seconds, resulting in a crash. Just an idea. Does it get through the RAM check? Enabled "Quick power-on self test" in BIOS? Does the PSU smell hot if ...

If IT are complaining you could offer to install - and use - a program called NIMBUS (it's free - Google for it) which limits the bandwidth across a NIC card. You can enable this during lunch time - to 56K speeds while you are playing - and that way you can GUARANTEE that the PC won't use more than ...

I doubt a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card would have the issues you describe.

Best to have it on its own IDE channel if at all possible. Better yet, do you have a SATA capable motherboard? Get a SATA drive - transfer rates generally kill the same version of the drive in PATA format. If using as a slave on an IDE channel - remember the master must go on the end of the cable, a...

Yep, and low latency PC2700 is dirt cheap, and will allow the tightest possible timings at low speeds. And we know that memory latency provides a good speed boost when tweaked.
