Re: D1 Level 13 music (Midi- remaster)
The original music files were a form of MIDI, and used a soundbank. There was an old program (16bit) called DTX that could extract the music into MIDI format, though it never sounds *quite* the same as it does in-game.

Much better quality than the D2 L4 you did, IMO. I like this.

Re: More RAM on my test computer
Quantity of memory only speeds things up when you use so many concurrent programs that you run out of RAM and Windows has to switch to virtual memory. Using old RAM that's slower than the newer, larger, and faster module brings the nice speedy chip down to the speed of the old one.

Re: To Kick, or not to Kick...
Well, I'd written a rather large initial post on this and didn't want to overload it with details. First, Kickstarter is for casual investors where they get a certain reward for funding to certain dollar value levels. Opening the project's particulars and finances up to the "investors" isn...

Sure, if you invest more than $1K. Some of that is reasonable for all, but for less than 1% of a stake, I don't see why someone needs that much detail.

Generally speaking, smaller RAM sticks are slower, so are older and/or generic ones. Also I assume this thing uses DDR2? If so, toss it all out and get these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166 $70 for a full stack of RAM is equivalent to 2 dinners at Chili's...just do i...

Platform exclusivity hurts everyone, BUT, since it's the console makers that are driving that aspect of the market, I refuse to support them. When's the last time you ever saw something billed as "Exclusive for PC!"? No...it's always "Coming soon for PS3 or Xbox360 or Wii!"...

Unfortunately, as the trademarks and specific copyrights to Descent 4 expired or were otherwise declared invalid, I picked them up and they are in the registration process, something that can take some time. I can't make Descent 4 on them alone, but neither can someone else.

Also, I've progressed beyond the initial prototype, I now have 2 levels of the D1/2 design, but not a replication from either, and can progress from one to the next and achieve an end game. Re: I got a new operating system!!!
Configuring and compiling your kernel, while at first daunting, is ridiculously easy. Every option can be looked up and it's not that difficult to determine what things you need compiled in, and what can be loaded as mods. It's just a time issue. Doing the studywork to prepare for it takes a couple ...

I use Ubuntu when I need a fast-setup Linux box, but typically I use Gentoo, which is even easier now thanks to virtualization, as I can copy my Gentoo VM forever and repurpose each one to whatever need. Frankly, while I like...hmm, hard to explain...the instruments used?, I don't much like the fact that the melodies aren't strong, and therefore forgettable. I'd like to point out that Clusters are a logical construct that organizes a group of continuous sectors. A Cluster is the smallest unit which can be allocated to hold a file. Therefore if your drive is setup to use larger than 512byte clusters, you are potentially wasting a lot of space. However, l...

Definitely. I draw only a little more more than that, but use a 1000 watt PSU. For a single GPU, I'd recommend an 850 watt minimum. 650s are for OEM PCs with virtually no accessories. You've also got to remember that PSUs generate fewer watts the hotter they get, and in order to make the numbers loo...

Eh...I see why he used those, but frankly they leave this circular sheen on the view that drives me slightly insane. I'd much rather just have the concave projection surface, 3 projectors, and correction software. Then put it outside of a cockpit window thing for depth/realism.

You might be ahead of me on this, but are these models going to be usable in D2X-XL? If I remember right, Diedel had to do a good bit of tweaking of models other people had submitted to make them work right.
