Is USD doing good at the moment? Compared to pre-pandemic, USD is much less valuable now versus EUR, CAD, etc. This is largely believed to be due to inflation resulting from the USA's deficit spending relating to COVID, but like anything financial who really knows because it just boils down to perce...

I mean, there's nothing wrong with copying per se. The linux desktop environment that I run (Cinnamon) has a start menu that is basically a slightly better version of Windows 7's. But saying that Windows 11 is copying Plasma is being pretty generous to Windows 11. In Plasma's (and Cinnamon's) "...

Re: Catholicism is a lie

I just tried Googling what the probability is of a single vote changing the outcome of an election, and there has actually been some work done on approximating this. In a swing state, there is a 1 in 10 million chance. However, for voters in states such as New York, California, and Texas, where the ...

The problem I have with this view is that it asserts that voting *for* something is always morally superior to voting *against* something. I don't think they're morally all that different. Is Yes morally superior to No? I mean, is "no, not that. literally anything else but that" somehow a...

We've debated the value of strategic voting before here. These are good points, but I also feel like we are in exceptional circumstances. Do people believe humans have a soul? I'm not a huge fan of RPM-based distros, so I'm mostly just watching this play out with popcorn in hand, but I don't think there is anything stopping anyone from just creating another CentOS, i.e., another distro that just takes RHEL and strips out the non-redistributable trademarks and logos.

I always wonder, don't McConnell, Trump, et al. care about their legacy or how future historians will treat them? I wonder the same about full-blown authoritarians such as Xi Jinping. Do they truly think that they are on the right side of history, or do they just not care?
