Would it be worth getting a faster proc over a faster graphics with future upgrades? I got something like that - no textures at all - with the DRI drivers for Radeon, but ATI's proprietary drivers work. Tabbrowser Extensions seem to work on Mozilla as well, at least according to the home page. It does indeed allow you to customise the behaviour of your tabs quite widely, including the option to make all links that would normally open in a new window to be opened on a new tab instead.

Actually I personally don't care so much about the file sizes of animated avatars (except if they're in the megabyte class), just that they're animated is more annoying. Something moving or flashing or whatever on the edge of the page makes reading the text itself a bit less comfortable.
