Stupidity? Halo 3 was a release with the ability to sell consoles and televisions. Bungie marketed it as HD... it's 640p. That's the resolution your computer screen ran at when Windows 95 was released.

OpenOffice supports Excel, as do Gnumeric (which I prefer, if for no other reason than it doesn't require Java) and Numbers (obviously not an option if you're not running on a Mac).

The ratio is only configurable for Vista. Everything older can only be set to a 2:2 or 3:1 ratio. PAE is the least likely to cause problems, because pointers are still 32-bit.

They never made an OS X version of the driver, I'm afraid. The stick might appear as a HID device, though, at which point it should be visible to any app that uses GLUT to process input.

To be honest, that could be anything. I remember having similar issues at one point in the distant past, but I can't remember what fixed them. It could be:

a) D3 bug
b) Bad RAM
c) Overclocked processor
d) Flaky USB driver
e) Bad video drivers / card
f) Random memory corruption...

The list goes on.
