Avoid the SiS chipsets. They are no where near as good as VIA. As JMEat suggested, I would stick with the Nforce3 chipset if you want to go that route. At this point getting an AthlonXP is going to be a dead end upgrade. There isn't going to be any new ones. The same goes for current P4s, a new form...

I figured Mobi would chime in about the Santa Cruz. I looked at it, but I would rather go with guarenteed compatibility. I went ahead and picked up an Audigy 2 ZS from CompUsa. I found that deal shortly after making my original post yesterday morning. I got the card installed and running and everyth...

Is anyone running this card? I'm currently using the onboard sound on my Abit AI7 and I'm growing tired of the pops and clicks I get in certain games. Its quite annoying. Also, I had a Live 5.1! installed, but for whatever reason it didn't function properly under games using EAX or EAX2. Elite Force...

Stop Ads in IM
I discovered this little trick by doing about 2 minutes of packet capturing and looking for what goes on when someone signs in. There's quite a bit of crap that flies by, in any case, do this to stop the ads from showing up: Note: I don't guarantee that this will work all the time, or if it will wor...

It may be because you are buying $10 powersupplies. In contrast, my PC Power and Cooling Turbo Cool 425 powersupply was $125. It has a 5 year warranty and its built like a tank. Another possible cause is poor house wiring. You may want to consider a line conditioner. A nice UPS would act as a batter...

Yah, I noticed you can't do the Windows boot drive. Thats a bummer. I went ahead and striped the two drives I have here and put my games on it. For comparison sake I went ahead and ran the Sisoft Sandra benchmark on my regular non-raid drive and my newly striped drives. Before you get all riled up a...

Actually Mobi, you are the one who is wrong, see here: http://storagereview.com/articles/200309/200309147Y250M0_1.html Thats a Maxtor drive in both PATA and SATA versions, both of which scored with in a few 1% of each other. Hardly a 20% performance gain. In a few tests the PATA drive actually out p...

Mobi, the transfer rates on SATA do not kill the transfer rates of PATA drives. There limit on current hard drives is not the interface but the actual mechanics of the drive. WD's raptor drive is nothing more than a PATA drive with a SATA bridge chip soldered onto the logic board. The performance ga...

As a general rule of them, don't use your debit card online, people can get your number and easily drain your account because it is linked directly to your checking...

I believe I saw a book in Borders the other day that said something about Router Simulations. It was in the certifications section, and I'm pretty sure it was a CCNA book. I did a quick search on Amazon and came up with this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0782130186/qid=1075050018//r...

I used all the Boson software while I was studying for my CCNA when I was co-oping at Cisco. The Boson software was nice, but it wasn't really necessary because I had several labs full of Cisco gear at my disposal. Even though the Boson software isn't very accurate in it's simluations, the questions...

Lothar, I've had Kali since '96. My point here is that its no longer necessary to play D1 with the apparent addition of UDP/IP support. That makes D1 equivelent to all other multiplayer games on the market. Whether or not the performance is helped or hindered by this addition remains to be seen. Als...

D1 Anybody?
So I just installed D1X 1.43 and I totally dig the OpenGL and UDP/IP support. I haven't played Descent in about 5 years, so I'm looking to play a few games. UDP seems to work fairly well, at least it did in the few games I tested it with. If anyone out there wants to play, let me know, I'd love to g...
