The dilemma
So I was at BestBuy this evening and they had a BFG 6800GT OC sitting on the shelf selling for $400. Now, my 9700Pro is getting kinda long in the teeth and I'm thinking this card would make Doom3 (and HL2) run silky smooth. Problem is, the card is $400. I have $400, but I can't bring myself to justi...

Sorry about making the flame-ish posts. I was just getting a little fed-up with the constant hype and discussion about the game. I'm sure that, for people who like that type of thing, it's a really revolutionary and fun game. All right, that's enough of my derailing of this topic :). Dude, you have...

Top, have you actually played the game? Its amazing. You want groundbreaking? Look at the use of light and shadows to create a mood / environment that I have never before experienced in a computer game. Combine that with the extraordinary sound design and what you get a completely unique gaming expe...

No AA or AF turned on. I never play with that crap on. Most other games I run at 1600x1200 where there is hardly any jaggies at all. Only thing I turned on was vsync in the doom3 setup. It doesn't run fast enough to be held back by my refresh rate, so I turned it on to make sure there wasn't any tea...

For those of you who have played the game, how do you go about entering a new room? Personally, I take it very slowly, scanning the floor, ceiling, every nook and cranny with my flashlight to make sure none of those damn Imp things are going to jump me. Does anyone out there just run and gun? Who's ...

Meet your new friend, Mr. Flashlight
I've been playing Doom 3 through the single player. Currently I'm walking around, quivering, in the Alpha Labs. Thank god for that damn flash light!
This is the creepiest game I've ever played, hands down. My god, its crazy!

Man, those are screwy looking graphs. I had RAID0 way back in the day on a FastTrak66 card and it did something similar if I recall correctly. Unfortuntely, the current word on the street says that RAID0 is practically useless for everyday, single user uses. Obviously this excludes video / audio edi...

Just got my new Raptor drive so I decided to do a few HD tach tests on it. Get the latest version here: http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/index.php?request=HdTach Do a Long Bench (32meg). Here's the Raptor, all by itself on my ICH5R southbridge: http://www.rit.edu/~aig3588/raptor.jpg Here's my ot...

Its a shame that the 74gig 15K.3 is around $550-600 :) I'm getting the Raptor for $165 and I'm selling my current setup for $205. No doubt that the SCSI was nice to have, but my drives been be eclipsed by the Raptor and even some 7200rpm IDE drives. Time for some new ones. Having 1 drive instead of ...

Have you read the review of the 74gig drive on StorageReview? The Raptor beats the 10K.6 in every test. It only looses to a few of Maxtor's latest offerings. Its a very speedy drive indeed. Why ditch the SCSI? Because I want to slim my machine down. This way I can loose the controller card and swap ...

New HD Question
I have a new 74gig Raptor drive on the way which I'm going to use to replace my SCSI setup. Is there any way I can get Windows to boot off the new drive without having to do a reinstall? The controller is going to be completely different so I'm not sure if it will work. Maybe something in the boot.i...

Got the new fan controller today, things are much quieter again thankfully! The 305 is a nice little unit and it looks much better than the monsterous 201 that takes up a 5.25 bay. I drilled a hole through one of my slot covers and mounted the blue cathods on the outside of the back of my case. It p...
