Tried that, no dice. With the Audigy2 there is no merging of channels, I would be SOL without the middle speaker.

The dilemma

So I was at BestBuy this evening and they had a BFG 6800GT OC sitting on the shelf selling for $400. Now, my 9700Pro is getting kinda long in the teeth and I'm thinking this card would make Doom3 (and HL2) run silky smooth. Problem is, the card is $400. I have $400, but I can't bring myself to justi...

Man, if you guys don't have 5.1 sound you are totally missing out. I'm running a set of Klipsch 4.1 speakers and I was totally bummed when I got Doom3 because it said it couldn't turn on surround sound because it "couldn't find surround sound speakers." Apparently 4.1 speakers isn't close ...

Is it just me or does anyone else really really really hate using those damn elevators (lifts)? I hate those damn things, something always jumps me. Now, for ones that go down anyway, I lower the lift, hop off and toss some grenades down first, then I call it back up and head down.

War, you can turn it on manually in single player by going into the console (ctrl+alt+~) and typing "seta g_showplayershadow 1." This will turn it on permanmently.

Sorry about making the flame-ish posts. I was just getting a little fed-up with the constant hype and discussion about the game. I'm sure that, for people who like that type of thing, it's a really revolutionary and fun game. All right, that's enough of my derailing of this topic :). Dude, you have...

No AA or AF turned on. I never play with that crap on. Most other games I run at 1600x1200 where there is hardly any jaggies at all. Only thing I turned on was vsync in the doom3 setup. It doesn't run fast enough to be held back by my refresh rate, so I turned it on to make sure there wasn't any tea...

For those of you who have played the game, how do you go about entering a new room? Meet your new friend, Mr. Flashlight

I've been playing Doom 3 through the single player. Currently I'm walking around, quivering, in the Alpha Labs. Thank god for that damn flash light!

This is the creepiest game I've ever played, hands down. My god, its crazy!

You can mount NTFS volumes under drive letters of another drive ala Linux if thats more your style. You can have a folder thats a seperate 250gig. I've never done but personally, but I know the option exists.

Its a shame that the 74gig 15K.3 is around $550-600 :) I'm getting the Raptor for $165 and I'm selling my current setup for $205. I doubt that will the case. The Raptor is both faster in terms of transfer rate and seek times compared to my Atlas 10K III drives. The 15K.3 is a nice drive, but expensive and loud. I'll post what I think once I get it and have everything loaded up.

Have you read the review of the 74gig drive on StorageReview? The Raptor beats the 10K.6 in every test. It only looses to a few of Maxtor's latest offerings. Its a very speedy drive indeed. Why ditch the SCSI? Because I want to slim my machine down. This way I can loose the controller card and swap ...
