Overclocking New Rig
Ok, since this is only the second time that I've ever overclocked a computer... somebody tell me how I'm doing. Before: http://myweb.cableone.net/swishboy/images/cpuinfo_before.jpg Now: http://myweb.cableone.net/swishboy/images/cpuinfo1.jpg The voltage in the BIOS is set at 1.525. There is one thing...

Video problems in Descent 3
I start a game in Descent, and I get texture corruption (screenshot). I'm using the Catalyst 4.6 drivers, and the rest of the specs can be found here

You do relize that the OS you are ordering is not an OS at all right? License only means there are no disks. However, if you already have a XP install disk then you are fine. Yeah, I've already got the Windows XP Pro disk. There's no way I was going to spend an extra $40 or so to get another disk. :P

380 Watts will be fine. Besides the overclocking, the only other thing I plan on putting in it would be a second hard drive at a later date. I chose some A-Data PC4000 RAM that was recommended on another BB. Hopefully the OCing will go well, I haven't done it in a long time (so I'll be back for some...

I know that the A64s overclock differently than the XPs. The FSB is built into the chip and not changeable, correct? So I can overclock without having to get some better RAM. I've heard that the 3000+ can usually easily make 2300Mhz. Edit: Crud. That deal on the X800XT charges tax, oh well. I also d...

Sure, but they also scream at 32bit applications. One more question: I can't find the same deal for the X800 Pro that I had before. So I'd be buying it for $399. I found an X800XT for $435. Is it worth it? (Let me rephrase that... I know it isn't worth $400 dollars, but is it worth the $35 extra to ...

New system (v2)
I posted a couple of months ago about getting a new system with Socket 939 and PCI-E. Now that the S939 reviews are out, I'm thinking that I can't afford to go in that direction. $500 on the CPU (3500+, the lowest end CPU on S939) and a good GPU is just going to run me too much. So... Here's what I'...

Building your own is cheaper and only takes about one hour for a first-timer to get a computer physically together. After that it gets real easy, just stick the Windows install disk in and press the buttons when it asks you to. I practiced piano for an hour while only stopping to press buttons here ...

WinXP Crashed... help?
My brother was getting BSOD while booting today. This was the error message (no driver mentioned):
stop 0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0x03020100, 0xF7A7E4F8, 0x00000000)
The number after the 'A' has been 8 and 6 as well. I tried a repair install, but that didn't work. I can boot into safe mode. Help?

I second the UT2004 suggestion. Great game, much better than 2003. Onslaught and Assault are lots of fun, as well as Team Deathmatch and CTF. I don't really play any other genres regularly, but I have played a couple of racing games on a LAN. Lots of fun; you should definitely include soom good titl...
The only thing keeping me from playing more is the fact that I keep breaking hat switches. It was annoying me so much that I've quit playing for a couple of months now. I need something to play, as UT2004 is too choppy online and I rarely have a chance to hop on my brother's desktop (must... get... ...

and 239$ is still too much for that ram, even for a gb...he can get some corsair 3500c2 for 210$, and that ram has bh-5 chips, which means it can go as high as 250 1:1 at competetive timings. Mind pointing out where I can find a gig of that stuff for $210? I'm having major trouble finding it for th...

Wow... Ahem. Anyway, I probably won't be doing any overclocking. I know how, and I've messed with it a little in some of my other computers, but I'd really rather have this one run quieter since I'll probably be taking it with me to college (not to mention that I don't have the time to mess with it ...

I could drop the floppy. I could just use the one on the laptop if I really needed to. But... DVD burner? I looked at www.newegg.com and couldn't find anything for a decent price (<$70). I'd rather drop the money on the CPU/MOBO/VIDEO.

I'm working on getting some good parts together to build a new PC. I'm going to wait for the socket 939 CPUs and motherboards to come out before I do this (as well as the next generation video cards). Looking at the price so far, it is getting expensive. So... Clearing the History won't do you much good for pop-up ads.
