Ja, but I did shut up for a long time, and people kept getting at me, and it finally was enough. I also had no other place at that time. And finally is that mentality of just harrassing people for the fun of it so entirely alien to me that it is very hard to understand for me that there are people y...

Alternative? Alternative to what? You're talking bullcrap. You can have plain vanilla Descent 2 with D2X-XL as well, and if at some corner there is a flaw, people just have to tell me, and it will be ironed out. D2X-XL has a history of thousands of changes, and lots and lots of them have been made d...

Yes, it always was for everyone - for everyone using D2X-XL, because only D2X-XL allows to use hires textures. Of course you may be able use the textures elsewhere, but they were intended for D2X-XL, and Nova stated that when starting his project. So - apart from him being free to stay whereever he ...

I would like to play something like Boiling Point, just bigger and better, and not having been built by me. It's so nice to see something fresh. I for my part cannot see the old legacy rendered Descent mines anymore, nor the overly simplistic mission design. With D2X-XL you can determine what robots...

Call for D2X-XL level designers - veteran and novice alike!
I must admit that this thread looks like a competition to DarkFlameWolf's, and in some way it is, but not in a personal way. The idea to gather a team for building some great Descent levels is a good one (why didn't I have it myself? Oh, I didn't have time to think about something like that ...), bu...

You can't have a lot of cool D2X-XL effects in standard D2 levels, including static smoke (smoke coming from the geometry), and imvho you are pulling a lot of potential in a lackluster direction. There's tons of legacy missions out there, but few D2X-XL missions, and D2X-XL offers so much. Instead o...

So you're gonna make the 5000 and first standard D2 style level set with the same old textures. No colored lighting. No static smoke. No lightnings. No skyboxes. No hires custom textures. And and and. Dang boring legacy stuff. I think you can count the single player fans not using D2X-XL with a hand...

Pumo, please please keep working on your big mission instead of stretching yourself over too many different projects. :) DFW, what wide audience do you want? Most people use D2X-XL for singleplayer these days anyway, and it's offering so much over D2. Sounds cool... I'd volunteer (albeit not at the ...

So this is where CD has gone: From a professionally built cutting edge engine with cutting edge tools (for those who believed it) to a spare time project using a 2nd class budget game engine, where people get erectile about a D2'ish wallpaper while waiting for a pre-alpha tech demo. And Bubba gets c...

It would still be the same game. Look at what has been done already: New fx, new gfx, new models ... but still true to the original. A new engine would mainly mean perfect execution of these changes instead of some of my kludges, things like proper shadowing, nicer coronas, shader fx for water, and ...

Some people think that a game is in its exterior appearance, the graphics, but I don't. I think that what makes D2 D2 is its gameplay, and that is mainly made up of ship and weapon properties (physics): How fast is the ship, how does it accelerate, how is its handling (turn speeds), what are the eff...

Zombie, I don't think Supersheep's reply is so bad. I also simply don't have the time to help you a lot with it. Loo...

Hm, I forgot to place that one. That was probably above LL in difficulty though, not that I remember LL *very* well any more. Actually Boiling Point is not that hard at all (it's not easy, but not impossibly hard to beat. I mean, I can beat it, and I am by far not the greatest Descent player around...

Zombie has used a brushed metal-effect texture with some blurred reflection over it for the barrels. Don't judge the models from the small images here - grab D2X-XL, load a level, type 'honestbob', select the weapon you want to view and press Shift+F5 to drop it. Switch to the gauss cannon and zoom ...

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=41858 I was wrong on the game though, just remembered it was an id title. The sprites do not look any richer than the models. They do not have a single extra detail the models don't. But it doesn't matter anyway - when Zombie is done with the weapon models, they w...

All D2X-XL hires sprites look better than the hires models in terms of shininess and details. But overall I still prefer the models far and wide. They look more authentic. The sprites are just *too* polished. They look unreal, they somehow don't fit in with the rest. And then they still give the imp...
