Re: I've always liked those Aussies...
Foil is absolutely correct. Any attempt to combine government and religion destroys BOTH. AND, currently Sharia law has no legal standing here. And no indication that it is likely to. The scary thing about Sharia law is that it IS the stated intention of those who believe in Sharia law to combine it...

What I find really bizarre about the UFO conspiracy theories is that they almost all include the idea that the government knows about aliens, but is covering it up. I mean, really, think about it. What do all governments want? More money and more power. What would happen if the government announced ...

A VERY true point from XKCD. If anyone REALLY wants your data, there are usually much easier ways to get it than cracking your encryption. That DOESNT mean encryption is a bad idea. Encryption is like locking your front door. It keeps out a whole LOT of people. But it wont stop a really determined c...

The government that restricted stem cell research on religious grounds I hate to be defending Bush here, but I think it's important to clarify this point. To the best of my knowledge, the government did NOT restrict stem cell research in any way. The ONLY thing they restricted was funding stem cell...

Where would one find the article of this event? Had to dig around a lot to find the references. I never could find the original article I read, but I think the 2007 case below was the one it was talking about. If so, it was Germany and not the US, so I misremembered the place and some of the detail...

On the other hand, if you're doing anything remotely shady... don't have a cell phone, I guess? Hawking's position is silly. Which is amazing for a man of his stature. Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing This does nothing to answer the question of why there is a law such as gravity. It's a philosophically silly assertion. Either you have...
