Grendel, the guy was lying on the ground completely motionless. He had been knocked unconscious. It turned out later that his spine had been severely injured, as I already wrote, and the police could have killed him with their unnecessary outburst of brutality. You f'n know that I am right. I had th...

You need KALI to play D2 online. Or just inet access with D2X-XL and its tracker feature (or D2X-R and Hamachi).

What is so hard about that, particularly for U.S. Americans? Everybody is responsible for his actions. Chasing a felon is no carte blanche for a vigilante. If he isn't careful enough not to hurt anybody (else), he is to be held responsible for it. I find it ridiculous to charge the guy with murder t...

Well, I have dug deeper into the OpenGL fog coord stuff, and it is much more complicated and harder to use than I had thought (you have to apply it per texture rendered), so I doubt I'll implement it. Sorry. I'd so much love to completely rewrite D2 using everything modern gfx hardware (and physics ...

I cannot just apply fog through the entire mine. Btw, per-pixel fog is offered by OpenGL already (depending on the quality level chosen). OpenGL supports adding fog via coordinates, allowing you to fog limited areas, and that is the desired effect for Descent levels, imo (as Kyo pointed out, you may...

LOL @ the Spongebot! I had thought of several different ways of adding fog: Adding fog objects creating fog in a sphere with some definable radius around them). Problem: Fog may undesiredly extend into nearby, but not directly connected segments. Making fog a segment (cube) property. Problem: I don'...

If I had a say in a rewrite of Descent 1/2, I'd definitely recommend using OpenGL 3. It contains all the fancy new stuff you can do with DX10, and it is free and not platform bound. Together with OpenAL, you can keep your game completely portable and quite platform and OS independent. For me, Direct...

It took me quite a while to comprehend certain parts of the code (partially due to the lack of understanding of the underlying technicalities, like 3D math), but I think that I have a pretty thorough understanding of most of the program code by now. Tim, as I said: You have no clue of what you're talking about. Lothar is right, I did a lot of refactoring the code. I have cleaned it up, optimized it, and removed a lot of bugs. The program has not become more messy through my changes, but less messy. To recreate D2X-XL, you'd need to code a compl...
