Not to turn this into an ideological war, but IMHO if you want a weird and awkward UI, you really don't have to look much further than Devil. Simply moving the camera there was a mission... That's funny ... I think the same of DMB / DLE-XP. :P But whatever, DFW is right. Speaking of DEVIL, is Lars ...

Have you tried booting off another CD? Try downloading a small boot disc like Puppy Linux ( direct download ) and burning it to a CD. If you can't boot the laptop off the Puppy Linux CD, then the drive is shot. (If you're not familiar with ISO files, you need a program like Nero or Roxio that can bu...

I haven't seen the movie, but from what I've heard, there's nothing specifically wrong with it. I think the concern is more with the books, and the fact that people will see the movies and then buy the books for their kids. I've read the trilogy - yes, I really enjoyed it, but yes, it's downright an...

Ooh, this is an awesome idea. Time allowing (or time making, heh) I will definitely be contributing. How long that takes is the only real question here. I'll attempt 5 levels, but who knows, I might get carried away and do more. My preferred editor is DEVIL - will that mess up your plans to convert ...

You'll find decent rates at their online store, though not all tracks are available in MP3 yet.

Do you have a piano or keyboard? You can hit a random note, guess it, and then check to see if you were right. No program needed. Actually, though, you don't really need to learn every note. Learn the low E note, and then use harmonics to tune the other strings. My friend who is experienced with a v...

The PDF export was much needed, although I'm surprised they managed to do that without gaining Adobe's eternal enmity - after all, who's going to buy Acrobat for Office file conversions now? As for the ODF convertor, the one I was thinking of was to be written by Microsoft, but Open Source is better...

Doc incompatibility with other programs is a good reason not to use Microsoft Word and doc format for your documents, since nobody can figure out how to read docs except Microsoft Office, and even that doesn't get it right every time across all versions and platforms. Doc isn't supposed to be inter...

The monitor was an LCD screen. A flat panel display is totally immune to any problems that resolution could cause That was my impression; I'm glad to know that for certain, though. Monitor Trouble
Alright, here's my tale of woe. I was playing Descent 3 last week. On my computer, the game has an irritating tendency to switch resolutions at least twice any time a level loads or ends. Now this time, after the stats screen disappeared, the screen went black as usual while it switched resolutions ...

This may not be precisely what you're looking for, but I have two suggestions just for usability. First off, the drop-down menus aren't cross-browser compatible - they're offset to the right by a hundred pixels or so on IE7. Also, the user shouldn't have to scroll sideways to view parts of the page....

Those fonts are handy for making Descent wallpapers and the like. I'm pretty sure I actually did use one of them as a Windows font at one point or another.
If you want the full set of three, you can find them here:

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this. After updating to 1.9.265, I now get blocky white polygon trails (like a pyramid sticking off the back of each missile). Switching to particle smoke eliminates those, but gives no further results. I'd update my video card drivers, but ATI tried pretty h...
