If the SATA was on a separate card, I'd recommend putting it in another PCI slot, but since it's built in your only options are what the BIOS lets you change. You could also try getting a chep PCI sound card, and disabling the onboard sound, just a cheap $10 card would do. Let us know how it goes.

Well, I updated to 87.74, and it didn't make much difference performance-wise, but now I *am* able to overclock my 6200, which would crash with the older drivers. Made about 30FPS difference, which is pretty much worth it when FPS dips below 60 on a regular basis.

Linux driver releases are still at 87.74, and I'm using 81.78 at the moment, cause it works. I may update to 87.74 before I upgrade ths machine and see if it makes any difference.

As having run a dual-boot setup before (with SATA and PATA drives) the problem is that GRUB isn't installed on the default boot device. Yes, you need to install it on the MBR of the Windows drive. This won't kill windows, as long as you keep a \"chainloader +1\" entry in there for Windows....

DCrazy's right on about Xfce. Blackbox is another good lightweight window manager. They're not as easy to use, but man, do they fly! That's the beauty of Linux, you can run it as lean or as fat as you want. (I know, you can get utilities that do the same thing with Windows... but it's still Windows)...

Almost all high-end CPU coolers use heatpipes nowdays. Zalman makes several nice passive graphics coolers with them (I have one) and they even make totally silent cases that use heatpipes for CPU and graphics that connect with the side of the case.
