Try to get it so youd be ready to take Calculus 1 in college if youd be required to for your major. I know its required here to take calc for most programming stuff. Other computer realted majors vary. Check the program requirements for your school.

Its a retail release now? I read a review at tomshardware a month or two ago that featured beta hardware and beta drivers, and they said it was "promising" at that point, but riddled with errors and shortcomings yet. So they never went past the beta hardware and just released it as is? Sad...

On that inspiron you got Jmeat: is the video memory seperate or shared with system memory? Also, whats the battery life?

I have a Nyko Airflo gamepad. Its basically a Ps2 controller clone.

Do NOT get the Logitech dual Analog stick. I tried it and its D-Pad was impossible to use.
