Problem solved...a different nvidia video card works fine. I think the previous card was just bad (it came from a pile of old hardware I had, and I don't remember what the deal with it was).

Since even the 'right off the CD' Loki version has the same problem, I think it is a problem with my driver or setup, not with the actual rendering code in the game.

Linux OpenGL problem

I'll admit, my experience with Linux and opengl isn't that great. I've been working on the 1.5 patch for Linux, and so far everything is working ok, but I don't get textures inside the game. I have this problem with the Loki CD install, and the version I built myself. I was wondering if anyone else ...

As someone who spent a lot of time on the crappy netcode in D3, I'd invite you do show us how much better it can be done by writing it yourself.

D3 has a lot of differences from D1/D2, and something that might seem obvious can be pretty tough to solve at times.

The game has the ability to override individual files within the hog. That's why there are some extra.hog files we included with later patches. The newer version of the game just loaded the new hog after the main hog was loaded, and any file in the extra.hog takes precedence. So it can be done....bu...

Thanks for the info...actually I'm the one who got Duane hired to do the Mac port in the first place! I emailed his yahoo account many months ago, but never got a response. He's since contacted me, and we're going to work together to get a 1.5 carbonized version out ASAP.

Last night I started the merge of 1.5 code into the Linux tree. It is going well, most of the changes merge in pretty easy when using Perforce's visual merge utility. I hope to have a beta of Linux 1.5 by this weekend if things continue to go well tonight.

THQ did not buy anything related to Descent, Freespace, or Parallax Online. Matt Toschlog owns the rights to the source code, but Interplay has some control over the game itself still.

I have what I think is the 1.4 mac source, and I have to merge in the 1.5 changes. Unfortunately, my G4 video card died the other day, so I have to go shopping (hmmm...an excuse to buy an ibook...) before I can work on the Mac version.

Patch Status

I'm going to use this thread to update on what is happening with the patch. Last night I got the Linux version building (no small task, code has a tendancy to break after sitting still too long, and Loki used lots of utility programs I had to find and get compiled). Now that it is building I've got ...

Finally got the source!

Today I finally got the Linux and MacOS source for D3. So right now I'm working on the Linux port, then I'll do the MacOS port. This patch will eventually include a reworked PXO setup...PXO games won't require a login and will be interchangable with direct ip games. We'll probably keep the chat serv...

Ok, I do have permission to release patches now! Took longer than I thought, but I got permission today. The next step is for me to track down the latest Mac and Linux source code, integrate those changes to 1.5, and build them. Then I'll get some testers and after a basic test release a public beta...

For you doubters out there, I have a 1.5 patch that has many fixes and has been tested. All I need is permission to release it (supported by me). I have all the D3 source still, and I could release patches all the time, as long as I have permission from the copyright holder...

Hey, I still come here occasionally! As a matter of fact, I was playing D3 on PXO last night. My son (who was born after we finished D3) is now a D3 addict, and wants to play all the time. I'm having to set him up with a faster computer so we can play together. Anyway, thought about 1.5 aren't lost....
