Re: Lack of self-confidence?

I like intels' idea of "make the choice at purchase" have common hardware, and pick the OS you want - just one though. 95% of the user base won't want or know what to do with a dual-boot device, its nonsensical. Leave the choice open, and if the 5% want dual boot, let them do it themselves...

Well, any time they make something for surveillance, there is always a way to counter. Since any technology regarding this would rely on being able to read electrical signals, it will make it very easy to shield from either reading from or writing to the brain. You would nearly have to have direct s...

Thats pretty much my philosophy, got nothing to hide. I don't think they need to be prying into everyones business, but I figure if I can't stop them, then they aren't going to get me on anything. I don't know about telepathy and all this, but I think there is alot about the brain and the world(both physical and "non-physical") that we don't yet understand, and likely won't within our lifetimes. That being said... I think that the brain is enough of a biological computer that eventu...

Any particular reason you're not recommending SLI? Not that I'm going to do it because it will push me overbudget, I figured on down the road I could do it if I ever needed to.

What do you think about the 770 4gb version vs the 780 3gb, is the 780 better enough to make the difference?

Okay, so if you had $2500-3000 to build a new gaming rig (entirely new, nothing brought over from anything else, keyboard mouse, monitor, os need be included).. What would you build? Re: Modem Problems

You got to be careful with drivers going from XP to any of the newer windows. Did you go from 32bit to 64bit version when you did that? Because that caused a lot of problems with peripheral equipment, and if they haven't put out a newer driver for that modem (which is very possible) then you may not...

I hate netgears, they have some funky intermittant DNS problems, however - that can be solved by loading dd-wrt on them, then they're actually a decent router.

I don't have any experience with the Asus routers.

Re: Dump cable and go for online tv?

The other option would be to see if they have a NMS that keeps track of their ONT (if the ONT is a managed device itself), maybe they can have their NMS send you a notification if it loses contact with your ONT? That would be better than anything else I could suggest, most likely. And you could test...

Hmmm that would be problem with any Digital phone as well, since the EMTA also generates its own dialtone. The only solution that would equivilate that would be an optical light sensor. You would have to install an intrusion alarm into the demark box as well, since it is outside, you'd have to enter...

Re: Dump cable and go for online tv?

If you get a tivo box, be careful which box you get, most of the newer ones ditched the off-air tuner, you'll need the older version or figure out which one still has it, if any. But I'm sure there are other dvr options too.

Most cable companies have a "Limited Basic" that is basicly off-airs + weather channel and some freebie channels (c-span, etwn, etc) for cheap. Get that with a higher internet package, some places that still qualifies you for a multi-service discount as well.

Yea, but try to find commercialized equipment to transmit at 1 million gigabits ;) The key to Docsis 3.1 will be to phase out all the old analog channels and actually get them off the system, to make room for all that OFDM space. Many systems that have gone total digital, have done a Digital Overlay...

Re: DSL to wireless device?

I would replace the router. Newer routers will perform better with streaming media than older ones, and fewer devices=better (usually). Keep the old one for a backup. When a customer gets a router from us, we've been giving them TP-Link routers, and for the most part, they seem to work real well for...

We use Gel batteries in our standby power supplies, they're about the size of a car battery, but alot heavier. They're made for that kind of setup you're talking about. On paper, the life span is about 5 years, I believe, I'd have to look up the specs on them.

Just place, cut, put the fitting on the pipe, put the pipe into its spot, and tighten it down. Never have a problem wit...

No, electromagnetic waves do have an effect on the environment around them, and vice versa. If this were not the case, you would not have any problems dispersing wireless signals through your house, or from a tower through thick trees and hills to a house. Even the atmosphere itself has an effect on...
