Options for playing Multiplayer

Not sure this question has been asked before, but I'm looking for ways to play against a friend of mine via the internet. Modem play doesn't work, and Kali is not an option.

What are my options for playing someone across the internet, and how do I find people who want to play?

Descent 2 mostly.

I am familiar with Hamachi, but am not sure exactly how to set it up. Are there instructions online somewhere?
