Counting Suicides in CTF

In regards to calculating stats for DescentValhalla Leaderboards, it has been brought to my attention suicides should not count against you in CTF games. See poll and discuss.

The standard convention, held by PXO (in its day) and D3Stats.de, is that suicides are not counted in CTF. They are totalled, but are not included in efficiency calculations.

This is because suiciding in CTF (particularly in large levels) is typically an intentional strategic move, not.a mistake.

If you can count the CTF stats separately, then do it. Have them all in an entirely separate category so someone can see their, kills, deaths and suicides for anarchy in one field and CTF in another, and just toss in an "overall" field that adds them all together. It should be pretty trivial to code the site to let people include or exclude CTF suicides from it on a per user basis if you already have the data collected in that way.

I can see how it could be tactical...

But it also could just be being silly because you hate Veins and it's the only game open.
No idea who I'm talking about here.

In CTF it is tactical, probably at least 98% of the time.
  • Good defenders suicide to keep their shields up, or to get back to their team's side quickly.
  • Good flag-runners suicide to get full shields for their next run, or to hand off the flag to a teammate when they're weakened.
  • Good cover guys suicide to give shields to the flag-bearer, or to reset for the next push.
The intentional suicide is a well-known, well-established CTF tactic.

Sure, I agree with this post.
But I do think the previous stated stats idea was neat.
I'm too tired to really look into it, but I do think over-all that suicides can be used as a primary tactic, however there are mistakes.

But in all honesty? Who cares? If someone suicides, oh well. Good for them, or sucks for them. Either way, I'm not the one in trouble if it's mistake, or making the saving throw if not. That's basically my ideas on suicides.

Whether it's tactical or not it still counts, CTF is not a frickin TA or 1on1 where it matters what your efficiency is.

Suicides should only count if you take the other guy with you. :P
