buy the time this mod is done, Doom 3 is going to be dirt cheap. Saw that it's 20 bucks now! Wow. But then agian, they have released an expansion and Quake 4. So I guess it's "old news".

Why can't a groupd of the exact right people cryptically meet somehow and remake the actual Descent series to look like that? :D :P

well, because if "they" did, modeling, level remaking and texturing would take years. You would need a LARGE group to knock something like that out in like 2 years. Descent 3 has a couple THOUSAND texture files alone. I have no idea how many Doom3 or Quake 4 have; at least that many, I'm sure.

And in a way, that is, in part, what IC is doing. They will take help from those who want to. check out thier site and read through thier vision.

It could be done as you say, but then there is the "releasing" thing that could very well unleash a host of legal nightmares on you and your team. You're frairly new Image, so let me tell ya that a couple of couple of years back a serious look was taken at doing just that, but first what was left of Parallax and Interplay were consulted on the issue and a very nasty blood feud was discovered. Very basically, until Interplay vanishes off the face of the earth, and no one buys the title rights to the Descent series from them, the idea of a Descent 4 is not possible. We will have to content ourselves with mods. :)

In one level I built, I have a couple of rock tunnels which reflect how I think a lot of the D1 tunnels should have looked, but I'll tell ya that it took a LOT of time. :P

That shot isn't a render, that's ingame (and with an out of date and crappy skin, to boot). This is what a render looks like :).

I check the IC forums almost every 30 minutes at work and it has been absolutely rock-stable for me. The server is based in Texas.

hummm I don't get it. I'm not able to connect to the site. http://www.chmodoplusr.com/IntoCerberon/
That seems to be the ONLY site thats not letting me view it. I've deleted temp internet files and cleared history and so on. Still nothing. :(
This seems to happen once a week for some reason. grrr

Whats the direct link to the forums page then?

But that probably won't help you if you're unable to connect to the site at all.

without getting into a lot of 'how the internot works' it could easily be they are on a small host somewhere in podunk u.s. and might have just been routed poorly to you down in the wonderful land of oz.

i've had similar problems with smaller uk and aus sites in the past.
