and found this:
Kevin B. wrote:It hasn't died, I've just been super busy with work. If anyone wants to volunteer to help put together a Mac/Linux/windows installer I could probably provide them some unofficial binaries. Email me if interested.

I've no clue with code. But if there are takers, he could use the help.

Don't hold your breath -- posted in 12/2009, mentioned here. Kevin B. is the worst choice for maintaining Descent 3 -- no code release in 14 years but a lot of promises ! Makes me wonder how he makes a living.

lmao.

He ask 2 Years ago. Has anyone stepped up to help??? If not, then who is to blame here? He's running his own business along with a family.
Who then in that situation has the luxury of sitting down regularly and hammering out several 1000 lines of code?

"Constructive" hasn't worked the last decade+ and 2 years ago was 12 years into the process. Don't tell me you can't find the time to hack a few 1000 lines of code or just release the damn thing w/in 14 years. If he wanted to get it done, just release it as-is. There are a lot people out there that would take good care of it.

Here's the last communication I had from the owner of the code:
On 05/12/2005, Matt T. wrote:Hi. Sorry to take so long to reply.

Kevin got busy after the birth of his second child. I also had my second around the same time, so I know what it's like.

The whole 1.5 patch issue is pretty crazy. I got almost all of it done many years ago, but I had one last issue and there were also the Mac and Linux versions to do. Kevin made progress on those two, but never quite finished it up.

As far as releasing the source code, my thought was to get the "final" patch out and then release the code.

I'll talk to Kevin and see if he and I can get it together enough to get this thing finished. Bug me again in a few weeks if you haven't heard back from me.

It would sure be nice if the D3 source code was released. I'd like to see a properly polished D3X.

Doesn't Interplay own the rights to the source code???

Correct. Publishing rights. Iirc, they also own the rights to the Movie code in D2 for the intro and the intro and exit of each level or some such. ...not that that matters.

And as for Interplay, the Descent Wii conversion has taken how long now? 4 years? Merlin, you're on that site as much as I am.

I doubt it will be finished now that the WiiU is out.
I would like it if they released the new cockpit graphic and the other new graphics they were going to use on Wii, for DXX Rebirth and D2X-XL at least. You may end up hearing the new music that was going to be on Wii.

Duper, yeah, at least 4 years for the Wii port. I've already given up.
