If it doesn't work well in Dos, use Rebirth or XL?

Which do you prefer using for (non-XL) levels that don't run very well (or not at all) in Dos? (If you run all levels through a port regardless, please just select whichever one you'd recommend when Dos actually isn't even an option.)

I mainly use Rebirth, but that's simply because I have for a while. Before that, I was a big D2X-XL user. I still use XL sometimes. It really depends on what you are trying to do. I'd recommend trying a few levels of First/Counterstrike in both (and toying around with XL's options) and deciding based on that.

How can I most quickly set XL's ini file and options to best match Dos? (The pured2 toggle is broken.) Also XL keeps flashing the number of points I earned after killing a robot in the middle of the screen.

As for D1 in XL, how do I set that up?

How to set up XL to best match DOS? It's been a little while...
I'm not sure if you can change the points mid-screen thing. In "Misc" (I believe?) settings, you may be able to fix both of these things after setting "Expert Mode" to full then going on a wild goose chase all over the options to perfect everything to an acceptable degree.

You set up D1 in XL the same way you do D2: Copy all needed files to the "Data" folder.

So...is there anything you (or anyone else) remember(s) regarding setting XL up to match Dos best?

I'm an XL cub but you knew that already. I use it cause I like the explosion (and other, lesser) effects though, so I can't help with your question.
