Descent 3 Mercenary: Bees
On one level in Descent 3 Mercenary, you have to go through a planetoid with bee-like aliens and kill the queen at the end. Are these bees the same aliens that put the virus on the PTMC mines in Descent 1 and 2?
no they are not. they are not even the source.
if you listen to the audio commentary, and read the breifings.....you will find out that the planetoid was infected by the virus, just like all the PTMC and some CED bots.
matter fact, the planetoid in Merc is a clone of D2's final boss on the planetoid. it says it right in the mission breifing screen

D3 Merc Bees
Since its an alien planetoid, I beleive that the mechs there were created "by" the aliens but are not actually the aliens themselves that have created the virus. These bees are most likely some alien mechs that resemble organic insects and being mechanical instead of harvesting honey, they harvest energy. Thus that is why they are immune to energy weapons because they handle so much energy they probably need to be built to withstand all of it.
Thus the only way to defeat them is to use Vauss, Mass Driver or Napalm. Napalm works best on the queen because theres plenty of ammo for this once you get down to the queens lair *use vauss on the bees, napalm on the queen*. To finally defeat the queen however you need to find/replace the thruster fuse for the big ship that goes thru all 3 rooms *the thruster is inside one of the smaller ships and once u get it go inside the other ship to replace it* and then you need to bump the thruster of the ship to actually activate it *go outside where the queen regenerates to do this* and then shoot the queen until she is damaged and runs off to regenerate *in front of the thruster* and while she is doing this you need to get back inside and hit the switch overlooking her to fry her and make a way to get out, because youll wanna get out quick because her death causes an overload that blows the whole place. Not to mention you get cooked the whole time youre in there after she dies.
