descent 3 - secret level 2
Forgot how to open up those force fields in arena 4 in Proving Grounds so I can get the data cartridge to access the high velocity research center level. Any tips?

Descent 3 Secret Level 2
After you defeat the Gunslinger Mini-Boss which I think is in the Level 3 arena of the Proving Grounds. You end up in a reactor room of sorts with a level 4 key inside of it and you have 2 ways to go. Pick up the key and chose one of the paths *it does not matter which one*. Once youve chosen one, you end up in a room with a Mini-Boss Tailbot that shoots frag missiles. Simply charge him with your most powerful weapons and kill him quickly before he can react. Then the forcefeild in the bottom of this room will drop, but do not go down there yet.
Instead return to the reactor room lobby and take the other path across from you to the second room with another encounter with an identical tailbot. Remove this pest the same way you did the first. Then the forcefeild behind him *and in the first room you went into* will drop. Go through this new opening and you will enter a second reactor room. Go to the back of this room to find a repair station. In the middle here, you will find a broken data cartridge which contains the location of the Secret level 2.
Once youve done this, you must complete the level to gain access to the secret level. Activate the repair station(s) *if sheilds are below 100* and try to use them, a malfunction occurs which requires you to deactivate both stations and then reactivate them. Once youve done this, merely bump the glowing repair modules and they will restore your sheilds to 100, if youre above this then dont bother because these repair stations are useless to you, theyre designed for robots that require less power than your ship does so thats why you only get charged up to 100%.
Now, return to one of the rooms in which you fought the tailbots and go down into the hole in the floor. This is the championship arena. There are four Mini-Boss bots here, all of which youve encountered before, but now you will deal with them all at once. The trick here is to quickly run in and attack one of them and then make a hasty retreat back to the opening to the chamber. This allows the mini-bosses to duke it out with each other *their AI isnt that smart and thus they attack each other*. Most likely theyll kill themselves for you, if not then simply go in and clean up whoever is left.
Once this is done, the forcefeild in the floor below the mini-bosses will lower and you can go down to the final chamber to deal with the Ultimate Champion, The OD9 Dragon, Dravis own little pet drone. Its called the dragon because it shoots a jet of Napalm from its mouth if you get too close. Also it has a turret above its torso that shoots lvl 4 lasers and spines on its abdomen that cause damage as well, avoid these. To defeat this monstrosity, simply fly above it and attack its torso, the only vulnerable spot, youll know youre causing damage because you will see the telltale sparks and damage being done. Shoot this part enough and the boss will explode and the doors in the ceiling to the surface will unlock. Simply go up into these and fly up the shaft with the stars outside and the level will be completed.
It might be wise to save your game before you go up this shaft because you will be immediately warped to Secret Level 2 *i.e Level 17* and you might want to save your progress in case for some unforseen reason, the game crashes.
Congradulations, you completed Level 12 and now you can go to Secret Level 2. I hope this helps and if you have anymore questions, by all means ask.
