Need Testers

Post by DarkFlameWolf »

viewtopic.php?t=13152&start=270
Sorry for doing a forwarding topic here, but we haven't gotten any response on our testing offer for the 30-level Descent 2 mission campaign that's almost finished. read the last post of the thread and if interested, read the rest of the thread for more info on the project. But we could use some testers in the coming weeks to pump this baby out before the end of September/early October.

Send me a Rebirth-compatible version and I'd love to play it, with all of the work you guys have put into it.

okay, not sure what you mean by d3-rebirth compatible version, since this is being made for legacy Descent 2, it should work in all versions.
So far we have 3 dedicated testers signed on:

It's automatically compatible with anything D2 1.2 or above, possibly 1.1 if it has HXM/POG support. If it doesn't work with Rebirth it's probably not our fault. ;)

Nobody said "d3". Just "rebirth", which is a D1/D2 version some people prefer to D2X-XL.

Have you done anything to the campaign or levels to make them D2X-XL only? Or will they run under any D2 version?

There's no XL content in there.

I remember seeing a screenshot that was all pretty because it was taken in XL, that's why I made the comment.

Yeah just to clarify, it's not necessary to release different versions of levels to work with different versions of Descent 2. If the original Parallax releases supported it, everything will.

That said, it would be helpful to have people using various versions of D2 to play this thing on. Some of us use XL but it's meant to work with Rebirth, older versions of D2x, D2-3DFX, all that, as well. While we obviously won't be able to cover *everything*, that sort of stuff is of interest.

I would personally be interested in some results from pre-Rebirth/pre-XL versions because they are far less tolerant of level and robot design problems, but I may have to handle that myself.

I have an old PII PC with Voodoo4 on a Win98SE OS. I can do some of the original D2 v1.2 testing as well.

testing has begun! Everyone who signed up, check your PMs!
oh yeah, there are 8 different midis for the level set, not the four you'll probably hear looping. There is a level 5 and level 6 song and it loops through those 6 songs until levels 25-26 which have unique songs in themselves.

DH and I have mainly been sending them in through e-mail, though I do wonder whether there might be advantages in using a thread for the purpose. Only thing is not everyone would be able to use it... hmm.

well we know that except in d2-XL versions, the ship is a bit on the big side and may provide trouble in fitting through tight spaces, level 2 blue key is example. So that and many other instances of 'tight to fit' can be fixed later by a smaller ship model. So you can safely ignore these and get past them AS BEST YOU CAN and Sirius will take care of it on this end.
Also, level 15 boss does spawn smelters rather than any of our new robots, this is known and the HXM will eventually change accordingly.
Finally, level 21 seems to crash in all versions upon opening the first door except in D2-XL versions. So we're tracking down that problem unless someone has an idea as to its cause?

Well, I'd also comment to either slow down the thief bot or make him a bigger target...

As far as I know, there is only one person from this list of testers who can't post on this board.
So a new thread or the existing one in the Spotlight forum will do.

If you need someone to test on OS X, No OS 9 or Classic mode, I'll be happy to help.
