Somewhere I read how the military at one time was prototyping very large airships to haul tanks and other large size exuipment. Think the plans got shelved.

Actually yes it was. Toshiba wanted Simon to do the commercial originally, but as you could see the transmitted video was too poor quality for a TV commercial, and it seems that's all he could offer them. The radio sounds were actually taken from Simon's vehicle as ours did not beep like that.

The chair we used was custom built out of balsa wood (which is why it broke when it hit the craft right after balloon burst), and the cameras were actually supplied by Toshiba. The cameras used were the most hi-def cameras out there right now (not even released to the market yet), capable of filling up a 32GB memory card in about 90 min. And yes, you read that right- a 32 gigabyte memory card in about 90 minutes.

Simon was using transmitted video; our craft recorded it onto onboard memory cards that were recovered after the flight. I think the reason Simon was using transmitted video is that he did not recover his craft. Also, our cameras were supplied by Toshiba, but I don't know if that was true for Simon as well.
