I just shortened Vladimir to Vlad to keep with the vampire theme Issac started and because of the origin of the name for Count Dracula, which came from this nice guy. In fact, I think Vlad the Impaler was a nastier person than any fictional vampire could have ever been.

How we shorten names in English is obviously different from Russian. Besides, English is a really weird bastard language that came from a mix of other older languages, with all sorts of syntax violations and grammar conflicts anyway. You sometimes have to memorize a particular way of doing or saying things instead of trying to follow whatever arbitrary rules the language is supposed to conform to anyway.

sigma, you do realize that since Vladimir means "Worldowner", that will make most American's now think of Putin as a power hungry despot who wants to rule the world.

Well, I think I will not be mistaken if I say that in Russia men named Vladimir more than a million
