Nah - gimme a Skval torpedo any day. It'll run at 200+ knots. Image

The Americans are working on a derivative of the Russian Skval (Super Cavitating) and theirs may well go faster than Mach 1 underwater. Image

Isn't mach 1 underwater like mach 3 or 4 on land?

Whats important here is how the torp destroyed the ship. Look close and you will see the torp does not impact on the ship, rather it explodes beneath the ship. The resulting shockwave rises the middle of the ship into the air, and unsupported, it breaks in two. Pretty neat eh?
