D2 polymodel editor...

I can't find a good way to create custom robots in D2, only able to edit existing ones with rbotedit and similar programs. I downloaded robot construction kit and couldn't load because I didn't have Tahoma. I downloaded tahoma and put it in dozens of folders, some are-
C:/windows/system32
........../system/fonts
........../system
........../system32/fonts
C:/fonts (new folder)
anywhere else I should have tahoma?
Alternitavely, is there any way I could get polytron alone without the robot construction kit? Or is there any alternative editor for robots that lets you make your own polymodels instead of editing d2's defaults?
Also, I downloaded GXedit, when I start it it says \"File Error- couldn't find VBRUN300.dll\". Any way I could make this work?

For the Tahoma font, did you load it using Control Panel/Fonts? Might be the problem.

You're going to need that Descent Network DLL pack. I think Tahoma is just the canary in the mine, so to speak. If you don't have Tahoma, you don't have the DLLs these programs expect. Not sure where to get this pack, though, but someone must know.

(See the comment on the Version 1.1 pack)

The best model editor for D2 is still Truespace, to be honest. (At least anything that will export reliably to .COB; sadly Blender doesn't seem to.) That in combination with cob2pm and rbotedit yields far better results than you can possibly get with Polytron.

I do have a program that can brute-force Polytron models to render properly, but it's not for the faint of heart, needless to say...
