Is it possible to make D1-like robot briefings?

Let's say I've got MODELVIEW32 at my disposal. You can nicely, smoothly rotate robot models in it just like we saw it done in D1's briefings. Is there any way to use the tool to create equivalent robot briefings for D2? Or would they have to be made into actual converted movies like those from D2?

I know that in D2X-XL you can use custom FMVs because Pumo Mines did it -- I don't know how it did or if that's specific to D2X-XL.

Is Pumo Mines already available to play in any form? If that's the case, I'd happily take a look at it. I can use XL on my new computer. Or maybe "I should", because "computing lighmaps" before every level starts literally takes like 3 minutes and I have no idea why, completely kills any pleasure of playing.

Turn the lighting quality down to Standard or lower and it doesn't use or compute lightmaps -- also makes the dynamic lights look a lot better, in my opinion, especially with the cel-shader on.
And yeah Pumo Mines has a 3-level demo out which aptly demonstrates this. Although the robot briefings still use static images, if it's possible to use the movies he did in standard Descent or even Rebirth I'm sure that's a quibble to be sorted out.
And here it is! http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php? ... dl=item117
