Gamespy Port 20142

Hey everybody,

If you're running multiple servers on one IP addres, do NOT use GameSpy port 20142!! If people try to join any of your games from Kali, they will be dumped into the 20142 one! Use 20143 etc instead.

If you're only running one server then 20142 is ok.

The upcoming D3Server version 3 won't suggest port 20142 anymore. If you choose port 20142 manually the user gets a warning. Thanks to Stresstest for that info.

Can someone refresh my (fading) memory on the proper syntax for adding this to the shortcut command line?

Is it: gamespyport=20142

That would be too easy if it was, seems to me it was a little more kryptic than that....

it is :

-gamespyport 20144 -gspyfile custom\D3tracker3.cfg

so it IS that easy :)

oh and as we are at this point:

the content of the cfg is:

Code: Select all

 7
master0.gamespy.com:27900
 7
tracker.kali.net:22999
 7
tracker.descent.cx:27900

2 things:

First, you guys are gonna hate me because I was completely wrong about the Kali thing. Kali does have a problem where it puts you in the wrong server, but it's not because the server is using gamespy port 20142.

When Kali launches the game, it chops off the port number. So if you join 123.123.123.123:2093, it'll put you in 123.123.123.123:2092 (the default). I guess they're using improper command line syntax. I'm sorry. At least that explains why it made absolutely no sense.

Second, the number 7 changes depending on what country you're in.

0 - No Region Specified (any Region)
1 - Southeast US
2 - Western US
3 - Midwest US
4 - Northwest US, West Canada
5 - Northeast US, East Canada
6 - United Kingdom
7 - Continental Europe
8 - Central Asia, Middle East
9 - Southeast Asia, Pacific
10 - Africa
11 - Australia / NZ / Pacific
12 - Central, South America

So only use the number 7 if you're in continental Europe. =)

So THAT's why Kali kept sending me into the wrong server. Thanks for the tip, Suncho! I should post on the Kali BB about this problem, and hopefully Jay Cotton can get it sorted out.

I already emailed Jay about it Top Gun. But the more posts and emails the better. It increases the probability that at least one of them will get his attention. ;)

yep, yesterday i tried to join esa´s halcyon on port 2096 with kali and it pushed me into the polaris-server on port 2092. guess it chops of the portnumber.

Yep I got a reply from him too. Everything's gonna be all set. You can even fix it on your own by adding the following text file to your Kali directory:

custom.kgi:

Code: Select all

[Game 177]
ConnectTemplate=-directip {HOSTIP}:{HOSTPORT}

Necessity is the mother of invention...

...boy has this been proven true.

All due to PXO's downage, this has ferreted out these issues due to needs to expand the list of servers on sites other than PXO. Since, we know PXO goes down frequently, but usually for short durations, stuff like this never gets done.

Who knows? Perhaps this will ween us from PXO...permanently ;)
