A forum just for you old time Descent and Descent2 players.

Can I view the D1 or D2 robots?

Post by Xamindar »

Is there a program that will allow me to view the Descent robots or 3d models? All I want to do is create an animated avatar out of one so being able to rotate the model would help. I can just take screenshots of the screen to get my images.

I tried \"Robot Construction Kit Beta 0.3\" on planet descent but it complains about a missing tahoma font when I try to install it.

I use a couple of programs.

But to get started. Use PMView - Win32 UI program. Polymodel viewer for Descent 2.
Then there is DTX/DTX2 - Win16 UI program, Resources editor: edits musics, sounds and textures.

With the DTX programs. You can make gif files out of the animation textures that D1 or D2 has.
Plus you and edit them and replace them to make your own gif file. ;)
Have fun! :)

robot construction kit would be the way to go for you - the tahoma font is installed with MS Office and I'm quite sure it can be downloaded from the net somewhere
I could even eMail it to you

Thanks guys, PMview is perfect. And along with the Gimp I should be able to make a new avatar with my favorite robot!

Another question. Is it possible to view the D1 (or D2) pyro using the high res textures that d3x-xl uses?

No not D1 or D2. You can view the high poly pyro from another program.
Download D3Viewer. It has the "extra13.hog" file in the zip file. The high poly pyro is in it.

Thats what I used.

You don't need D3 installed to use this program. Just the hog file thats in the zip file. ;)

cool, nicely done, but IMHO it would look better with the Hi-Rez Pyro Model

I bet you use it, too in D2X-XL and if not you should ;-)

and the big one is better - the small one you use as Avatar is too fast

haha, well I do use the high res in D2X-XL and love it. The big one IS better because I had to remove a lot of frames to make the small one fit the size limitations of the forums. It was fun to make but it turns out to be too big for avatar use in most forums :(.
