If it can't do this, then it usually drops valuable powerups, or sometimes robots, like in level 25. The purpose of the class 2 supervisor is to alert other robots to your presence.

Well, in fact, technically the supervisor robot doesn't does nothing. He just fly around the mines with the 'Station' behaviour. However, Parallax made a great level design to make the supervisor station around the mine to ocasionally open doors, and the other stuff you just said.

So you're right, the level design suggests that the supervisor is a robot alerter.
