D2X update

Post by Diedel »

3 fixes:
  • loading old player files will not result in D2X-W32 crashing anymore
  • same for old demo files
  • work around for problem with special ham files containing more than 179 polygon models. Maybe some models aren't displayed or robots aren't spawned with this work around, but D2X-W32 should now run levels using such ham files, like Dr. Moreau's Vertigo Labs 2.
Find the new program on my Descent web site (see my profile for links).

the sound is a bit fubar. It crackles a lot and skips. I used the current sound DLL but it doesn't help.

still using the d2x_gl.exe

It doesn't have the texture smoothing, but the sound is fine.

Last time I used your D2x Diedel, I was getting graphical errors in the menu, such as text not showing up. Ended up switching back to the last release of the regular D2x.

Nvidia GeForce FX 5200

@Tyr:

Yeah, I know (sigh). It has something to do with depth buffer information for menu text and background (have the same depth info, hence it depends on the driver which to draw over the other and thus erase it). It's pretty annoying, and I will try to fix this soon.

The coding style of Descent 2/D2X makes my hair rise. Pretty hard to get through. :(

@Duper:

Sound handling is entirely up to the SDL (a freeware standard library driving graphics, sound, etc.). I wouldn't know what to fix there.
