SDL Parachute deployed

Post by Xamindar »

I am trying to run the Linux version. Has anyone been able to get it working? I first tried the binary and then I compiled it myself. I get the same error with both:

Code: Select all

xamindar@lain /usr/local/bin $ ./d2x-xl
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
As you can see, not a very descriptive error.

Here is a list of the data files:

Code: Select all

lain d2x-xl # ls /usr/local/share/games/d2x-xl/
alien1.256 demos fire.256 other-h.mvl
alien1.pig descent ii win95.exe fire.pig palette.256
alien2.256 descent.cfg groupa.256 pcxview.exe
alien2.pig descent2.exe groupa.pig readme.txt
cambot.hxm descent2.ham hmidet.386 robots-h.mvl
credits.256 descent2.hog hmidrv.386 robots-l.mvl
d2 win95 readme.doc descent2.s11 hmimdrv.386 sdl.dll
d2.bat descent2.s22 ice.256 sdl_mixer.dll
d2x-xl.exe descentg.ini ice.pig setup.exe
d2x.ini descentw.cfg intro-h.mvl stdout.txt
d2xtracker.pl endnote.txt lower.sh water.256
default.256 eregcard.exe missions water.pig
deisl1.isu eregcard.ini modem.lst xamindar.plr
Am I missing any?

I'm using SDL version 1.2.9 if that matters.

Well what do ya know. I have to run it as root. Any way to get it to use/save settings in my home directory? I can't find any readmes anywhere.

Ok, I have the same problem I had with the windows version. I can not change my joystick deadzone and sensitivity. I am able to edit the button configuration though.

Have you read my installation instructions? I recommend following my folder guidelines.

You can run d2x-xl using the -printlog switch and examine ~/d2x.log to see what happens last before the crash.

Yeah I did and I followed yours which said to put them in "/usr/local/share/d2x-xl". The actual program said to put them under "/usr/local/share/games/d2x-xl" though.

I'll try the -printlog option tonite and see what happens. Thanks!

Please read the announcement thread and continue in the proper thread. Thx.

Edit:

This SDL Parachute is a POS. What's a parachute supposed to do? Give you a soft landing. What's happening? D2X-XL still crashes.
