in version 1.9.29 the sound worked fine but now i cant seem to make it work with the newest version. help plz.

I think is a problem with an entry on the D2X.INI file...
Change '-hires_sound 1' for '-hires_sounds 0'

It is.

You need to have the hires sounds installed in order to use the ini switch.

Just change the switch as Pumo suggested.
