I remember a game called aquanox, I'm not sure if its entirely 6dof (dont remember if you could roll left/right) but still was kinda descent-like. Its kinda weird nobody mentioned this game, it had even a sequel.

yeah! I remember that game. It was more like an underwater Freespace than a Descent game. It came out between D2 and D3 .. well just after D2 hit the shelves.

I had heard that there was a sequel, but it never grabbed my interest. Welcome to the DBB btw!
