Double standard America

Post by Nightshade »

How "liberals" indulge in discrimination and revel in inequality can be summed up in this little passage:
Liberals can get away with racially charged comments with little to no punishment. Just ask Vice President Joe Biden. He once described rising star Sen. Barack Obama as "clean" and "articulate," terms that sounded downright degrading.

His own party forgave him. So did the future president.

Conservatives aren't given that kind of wiggle room. Their comments are routinely scoured for "dog whistles" and "coded language" meant to imply bigotry.

So like Orwell's Animal Farm...all "animals" are equal...just that some are more "equal" than others.

ITT TB proves yet again that he has never so much as spoken to anyone who identifies as "liberal."

I type to you hippies every day. I'm pretty sure you aren't exactly conservatives or even 'moderates.' :P

I don't know about vision, or TG but I suspect they're fiscally conservative, and socially right-leaning -- much like myself. But we're not right-wing insane.

The last time I took a political "test," my score was "centrist."

If I'm a centrist moderate, what're you? :P

Coincidentally, I landed in the exact same place as you last time I took that test, which is why your ridiculous generalizations make me laugh so much. You see, people like TG, Ferno, Slick, Vander, etc. (as demonstrated) understand that people never fall into neat little boxes like "leftist", "socialist", and "true conservative." However, guys like you and woodchip tend to build boxes around yourselves. You LOUDLY proclaim your views in extreme fashion, without subtlety, breadth, or nuance. You prefer a comfortable black and white world where decisions are easy. My guy is good, your guy is bad. You're clearly not comfortable with living outside the echo chamber.

Yes- upon certain narrow subjects- and hardly "extreme."
vision wrote:You prefer a comfortable black and white world where decisions are easy.
Wrong. You just made a generalization about me which is untrue.
vision wrote:You're clearly not comfortable with living outside the echo chamber.
Wrong again. I routinely read many things with premises or conclusions I do not personally agree with. I have an open mind.

What I see from "you guys" (TG, Ferno, Slick, Vander) is intolerance for other points of view. They're dismissed out of hand without consideration.

I give Tunnelcat credit in that she at least considers what I have to say even if she doesn't agree with me.

I won't speak for my fellow comrades in the politburo, but I think I do consider other points of view. I like discussing things here because of the different points of view. Discussions are a two way street, and more often than not, you'll get out of a discussion what you put into it. If you snipe, you're likely to get sniped back. (taking a shot without revealing your position) If your premise is dismissive, you're likely to be dismissed.

I love mixing it up with woodchip because he isn't afraid to put his point of view into words and have it get sh!t on. I try to do the same. We hardly ever agree, but I think we do sometimes hash out an understanding of each others perspective.

And for the record, I landed in the center of the green box like Grendel.

heh. that must have been years ago.

IIRC my compass score; centre-right. but again, that was years ago.

Go take the test again and see if there's a difference. If you do that, I will too.

the only thing I don't tolerate from you outright is your demented derogatory comments about muslims.

of course i'm going to dismiss them out of hand, because they're archaic and insolent.

But I'm not dismissing your idea in your OT out-of-hand now, am I?

Heh, wasn't expecting to wind up quite that far down there, but that seems about right. I do find this particular quiz to be kind of over-simplified though: for one, there were a number of questions that I was pretty much neutral on, yet still had to choose one side or the other. A lot of them were pretty clearly worded to not really leave any room for middle ground. But who knows, maybe it all balances out in the end.

oh, you too, huh? I'd say there was at least one question per page I wanted to answer 'it depends on the situation', so the results were further left and down of where I stand. If it did have more neutral answers, I know I would have ended up where TB is.

you can even skew your results a bit by going with either 'agree' or disagree' instead of 'strongly' for each answer.

Yeah, several of the ones I put "strongly" for were kind of gut-level emotional responses, which I'm sure is exactly what the question writers were going for. If I'd sat on them for a minute or two, I'm sure I would have been a lot more measured in my responses. On the plus side apparently I wind up pretty close to Gandhi. :D

Yep, I came across those questions too. They should have a 'neutral' answer when it comes to those.

Then they couldn't put you in a box as easily, which is what you want. This test is all about your ego. You get to say "oh look I'm not a crazy right-winger, I took this on-line test that proves it!" Dumb. The fact you have such an outrageous fear of left ideology makes you a right-wing loon no matter what a simple test says, either that or you are ignorant of how left-leaning people co-exist with the right, or perhaps you have some emotional disorder. Probably both.
