I'm ok with this...as long as they give equal time to heterosexuals so they can tell the kids how awesome it is to be straight.

I'm fine with it. It isn't about selling your version of sexuality, but merely acceptance as a part of the greater community. Good for kids to learn early before sick folks with religious or other agendas vilify others.

Don't straights get equal time pretty much ALL the time anyway? They DO consider themselves to be the "normals" in our society and they ARE in the majority after all.

Yea, but when was the last time a straight person got to flaunt their sexuality in front of small children without being arrested.

There is definitely a double standard at play here.

And as far as being “promo” damn right it’s promo, I just love how some people can absolutely deny the complete obvious, while sitting behind their ★■◆● eating grins.

But "normals" DO flaunt their sexuality every time they talk about their male/female marriages and as proud parents, display their hordes of children like trophies. Lookie here, we're a normal heterosexual family and anything else is not normal. What can a gay person do to show that their sexuality should be at least granted some form of acceptance? They would prefer to be liked, but acceptance is at least a start. They can't do that by hiding in the closet like they used to do. If you're worried, showing a child that you're a happy gay person won't suddenly turn that child gay if he or she is straight to begin with.

You've got to admit that having the quintessential nuclear family consisting of a husband (male), a wife (female) and a couple of kids running underfoot pretty much screams hetero by default.

I'll also have to admit that my 2 aunts on my mother's mother side of the family who lived together all their lives and were never, EVER married, practically screamed "lesbians", but everyone back then knew, just winked at each other and smiled by saying they're just a couple of silly "Old Maids".

Well, how else do you show and teach kids about the varied diversity of humanity, how to respect one another when they appear "different" from yourself and that maybe there is no such thing as being "normal"?

Personally, truthfully…I just don’t think they should be discussing anybody’s sexuality during something like a story time, perhaps a school lesson on accepting diversity at a later age.

Of course silly stubborn me, still thinks it's the parents place to teach such things.

Kids can begin to tell when a person is different, gender wise, sometimes by age 6. Once that happens, then sometimes they'll react by bullying or harassing. When should you start some sort of diversity lessons to stop that from even starting?

Children should be taught not to bully other kids from the get go, and that should apply to all kids...not just the "weird" ones.

Again the parents job.

At some point those parents need to wake the hell up and realize they're living in the 21st century, and that their kids will be meeting all sorts of people. Unless they plan on living a la Deliverance, they need to deal with it. I view teaching children bigotry and intolerance as tantamount to child abuse.

The schools still fail at it, not for a lack of trying. Some of the resistance and failure is caused by the parents themselves, who are at many times the root of the problem. What then? We still have to all live together as a society.

The school voucher program makes things worse, because some of these bigoted parents who don't like the idea that diversity and acceptance is being taught in the public schools, now get public money to send their kids to Christian schools, where the bigotry and hate is perpetuated and reinforced.
