what's your say on cloning?

Post by Darkside Heartless »

Personally, cloning isn't always evil. If you make a hundred copys of yourself, yes that's wrong. If you make one or two and place them in good homes and see if they live normal lives, then it's the pursuit of knowledge, not barbarism.

Cloning of humans is bound to turn up problems (anyone remember Frankenstein?!). If cloning of body parts were possible, that would be good... get rid of the whole "rejection" problem if you could clone them from source.

The problem with cloning is that it has to be done on the cellular level. Which means that you use a cell of the organism to get a DNA sample, but then the organism has to grow and be born. That's not exactly the same as sticking a liver in a copy machine.

The world's population cannot be taken care of as it is, let alone clones.

A clone of you is no more you than an identical twin of you would be. In fact, less so, what with the age gap. That's not evil at all. So I don't have any problems with cloning, in principle. But I'd have a problem with it if the process involved a high mortality rate for the babies or the clones themselves. It needs to be better understood.
