phpBB3's fulltext search sounds a lot like what we already have in v2. Hopefully they fixed it since then.
If it isn't fixed by the upgrade, I'm going to beat RC over the head with the database server till it is fixed. ;)
Well, the forum still seems to hate building a search index (I got a 5 page long wall of text error out of it when we tried). So, it looks like I'll be chasing RC around with a database server after all... ;)

Coming along great!

"font colour" hehe. All right, who let the brit in.

I think there has already been some talk of restricting signatures, at least as far as images, which I think is good. There should also be a line count restriction (maybe even just a horizontal size restriction, if that's doable--just a thought). 3 lines max. We don't need to read a favorite chat session after every reply (you know who you are). :P

File uploads is a neat feature!

I think yours is the one I was referring to. Before it was 5+ lines colored and sized very much (exactly?) like the reply text. Now its one line, smaller, and a darker colour. Three attributes which make it a lot easier for the reader to discriminate between the recurring, accessory content of a sig and the reply content that is the primary focus on here. Some kind of a differentiation like that really makes scanning and reading much more pleasant.

Spidey, Thank you I thought I had left this version of the theme with Krom to upload today. I guess I booboo'd at least I had it one my test board :P still lots to do on this theme and the other DBB themes

Using FF v3.x.xx and DBB default theme.

Ahh much better. We're getting there.

Question: Are we still looking to do subforums for the main index page?
I know we had one person who wanted less clicking to get to a page, but I feel the main index page has to much going on in it.

So I feel subforums would be a plus addition. ;)

Thank you I had intended this version of the basic DBB theme to be in the roll out today, but in my haste this morning I transferred an older copy :(
I think subforms are the ticket (see test forum at 6dofbb.net). Bandwidth isn't an issue like it was years ago :), but before we do anything we are going to combine some forums that are less active, we can do that now with this version of phpbb :)

First things first, fix as many cosmetic issues and and back end bugs, after a week or so things should settle down and we can do so house cleaning, fourms and moderators too

Ugh. I'm NOT a fan of allowing signatures (not having them clutter the forums was one of the things I've always loved about this place).

I'll be turning them off in my settings as my first order of business.

I used to feel this way about them until I started going to strange forums for help. On one of those forums everyone shows the kinds of os and computer languages they primarily use. They'll also put, "PM me for help" or "Don't PM me for help". You could argue all that stuff could be hidden away in each of their profiles, but when I'm skimming all the posts made during the year it's much nicer being able to see it all with the conversations.

The signature line is pretty pointless for re-displaying your name since I'm only going to call you by your username anyway. Maybe that field should be called something else

Isaaaaac <---doing that is also pointless ...

I agree Foil. There are some forums where folk's signatures, or the images in their signatures dwarf whatever they're posting. I suppose shutting off them for individuals would don't like them would be an option. Perhaps setting a character limit and disallow [img] tags would be warranted?

Both limits are already in place (255 characters max), however that only means you can't put any new images in going forward. Sigs that already had images in them before we turned them off will still have the image till someone edits it, if it is a problem just bug an admin with a link to the offending profile and it will be fixed.

If that signature ain't the signature to beat all signatures :P Man I love you Foil! That's a classical signature! I hate signatures so I'll use my signature to advertise against signatures!

That wasn't the intent.

1. It's simply a 'heads-up' for people who object to the clutter, and don't realize sigs can be disabled in their display settings.

2. It's temporary, only for the immediate post-upgrade transition. I'll be removing it soon.

Also, does this conversion mean that the search function finally works?

Code: Select all

d3jake we have the original DescentBB when we used UBB and of course we the previous phpBB2.0 which BTW is still operational, but since all it contained has been imported here ... well it'll be around for the wayback machine!:)
Hey everyone back on track are there any opinions on the new colors for the CODE and QUOTE boxes shown above? I wasn't sure since they are not the old drab gray colors anymore.

Well maybe you get your jollies playing solitaire or something like that, Krom, but not everyone likes solitaire. Some of us would rather spend our 5 minutes replying to all of the active topics on the DBB. ;)

We love ya, Neo.

Give me a few hoursand I;ll get it back for you. Matter of fact that's on of my favorite and I will be getting it to look like it used to soon, maybe I can focus on DBB_Green this weekend.

I'm a single parent and I gotta start dinner real soon :P

Matter of fact I am considering taking DBB_Green and making a d2 and d3 version of it :) well I alreadystarted playing with both. I guess that's why DBB_Green wasn't ready for the roll out!

Sorry about that!

CUDA, please migrate to Descent_D3 I worked on it last night hopefully it is in better shape than the _green theme since I have been working on it more than the green theme and it's going to be the same anyway, I wanted to end up with three versions one for each version of the game

You can't collapse a category that rests on the index. Nest it inside Descent Developers and it will fold right up nice and neat though, that is why I originally nested it all inside the generic 6DoF forum. Want me to fix it?
