Post/Reply "Like" Feature

I've been posting to a sport forum, and this seems to me like a really neat feature. If someone posts something you agree with, or you feel has merit, you have the option of clicking "Like" below their post instead of filling up the topic with "x2" equivalent posts. What do you think?

The correct place to request such a feature would be here: https://www.phpbb.com/

Oh c'mon, Krom! We know you've got the 1337 coding skillz! ;)

I just assumed it would be a PHPBB feature. Darn.

There are phpBB extensions for it ( example ), but nothing in the official phpBB toolset, I believe.

Am I correct on that, Krom?

Yeah there are mods that do it, but mods also make upgrades/updates a giant pain in the neck and/or can open up security holes. I think it is reasonably safe to assume a "like" feature will be added in a future version (there is even a suggestion in the development section of phpbb.com), so if it comes around in 3.1 or 3.2 I will likely upgrade to those versions once they have stabilized.

Theory: this forum/site is too small to make use of likes/dislikes. We all know each other so the number of likes you get will pretty much always be the same, based on how popular you are in the forum. Though I could be wrong.

On massive sites like reddit nobody remembers who you are or pays attention to your user name. You can get -100 "likes" one day and 3530 "likes" likes the next, on a comment. The same goes for subreddit posts/submissions. I've been on the front page at least 20 times and nobody remembers me.

Good to know, Krom. (see? I could have "liked" his reply instead of typing this) I looked again and the forum is "powered by" XenForo.

I disagree, Isaac. The purpose of the feature is not to give you BB stardom, and our relatively low user count shouldn't be considered a negative, IMO. The purpose is to recognize contribution to the topic/forum that is appreciated by other users, in addition to my suggestion that it would reduce unnecessary, short replies for approval/agreement. I'm not going to "like" someone's reply just because I happen to like them. Also there is no "dislike", only "report" for extreme cases.

Sergeant Thorne wrote:I don't! It's still a very active forum. The ".com" knock-off version of this site, however, is dead, officially. Like, it's a waste of money to whoever pays its host. But ".net" is a healthy active site.

I use reddit. I know what they do.

Here's the mod the admins would use if they wanted a simple drop-in solution to this request: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2095240

In my opinion, long overdue need for a separate section "Off topic", which will be immediately transferred all the posts of the other topics that are not relevant to the topics discussed, as well as showing signs of flaming.

ahhahahahaahahah!!! You are a god. And you are the god of off topic posts! You are by far my favorite Russian. I don't know if you're trolling or not, but that was a perfectly random and ironic response.
