Funding is almost to $430,000 now!

That's a faster pace than yesterday and yesterday was way faster than the day before.

Also, they've redone some of the information on the KS page to make it clearer:

I also see you can win an AMD 295X video card if you participate through a Kickstarter referal contest! :D

dunkelza, if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Now you have the chance to either make history, or to plunge into the story.
In addition Kickstarter there are many other ways to get huge money. For example, to publish a book "Tips for honeymooners". But there is another, quite different. Even if you do not get enough money, but you make a good game, you get more than money. You get the respect the community of Descent. It's a little different.

And so, any news about Descendent Studios and Valin's offer? Was he interested on the Tech Demo and he would like to invest or was not convinced?
(I ask this as we still need $120,000 for the campaign to succeed and there are only 32 hours left, and hope this post doesn't bothers Valin)

At this stage if the devs are not bright enough to take Valins offer then the game deserves to die.

I think in this case is the other way around.
The developers are totally open to Valin's offer, but he (Valin) stated that he would only invest if he feels convinced enough.

guys, Valin has asked us to stop making parallel contact attempts and sending conspiratorial PM's. I think that might also extend to speculating about whatever offer he has or hasn't agreed to with the devs behind the scenes. Let them do their thing, and they'll speak when they want to.

Let's focus on the kickstarter. It's on a really good trajectory right now, but there are still risks. It's up over 80%, and it's pretty rare for a KS to fail at above 80%. But let's not hold back -- if you're going to support the project, jump in. I don't care if you back for $25 or $2500... just come be a part of it.

The new trailer is AMAZING!
Whether you are a backer, decided not to back it, or are on the fence, this trailer will DEFINITELY blow you away!

The reactor fight is GREAT!

$100k to go, and we're definitely going to hit the goal, and push toward the stretch goals.

Okay, I'm willing to pay $ 50.
But only after I try the free version. Although playing on pirate servers, it's not the greatest pleasure... I see that this game is full of surprises and of course I would prefer to buy a licensed version.

I've been extremely ill for the last few days, but I have received no communication from Descendant Studios in response to the message I was invited to send. I'm glad my aid was not needed to complete the funding of this project, and having just watched the above trailer, I'm already feeling much more confident in the result. I am still disappointed that they did not give me the chance to help them in a much larger way.

My offer for QA support and management yet stands, free of charge, though for reasons unknown I do not expect to hear from them.

After such a hectic few weeks, I doubt they have done anything since Friday.
In fact, WM said they were going to take the weekend off and then hit the ground running.
So no word yet is very understandable.

It's very generous of you to offer your abilities and expertise! Looking forward to your contributions to the game!

I have 3 questions:

Q1: Is there any way I could try a free demo alpha or something?
TBH I'm getting a bid bored of the first three Descents, and I need something new, like DU.

Q2: How does the mining thing work? :P (top-right corner of the weapons thingy)

Q3: Am I just gonna have to wait for the answers to the questions above? ( if no ( ))

P.S. If you get stuck on something for the in-game design (such as a map concept or a way to do a certain action - no coding stuff), then shoot me a PM (here on the DBB).
Whatever I just said, I hope you understood it correctly. Understood what I meant, I mean.

There has been talk of putting out a demo/shareware version, but not until late beta at least. Right now, very few people outside of the studio have flown it.
Q2: How does the mining thing work?
At present, there are destructible blocks and a short-range mining beam you use to disintegrate them. There's talk of potentially replacing it with something akin to a short-range fusion cannon that you can charge up and fire, so as to not spend a lot of time facing a wall (which is boring!) It's still very much a work in progress.

As for its value in the game, some game modes will depend heavily on resource collection and therefore mining, while other game modes won't use it at all.

Ok guys, some questions off the top of my head. I haven't read up much on the project yet so please bear with me.

- Is it the official, sanctioned sequel to D3? I mean you do have the approval of the intellectual property owners? I'm asking about this since you know how Sol Contingency was shot down by Interplay and all...
- Will the plot touch on the source of the alien virus?

It's the official prequel. They have the rights from Interplay for the Descent name (but not the rights from Parallax for the pyro-GX or PTMC, which is why they made it a prequel.)
Will the plot touch on the source of the alien virus?
I don't think we know that yet.

They've been hinting that the plot will involve the start of the alien virus but only vaguely, I don't think they've decided themselves how or whether to approach it yet.

Heya guys! Old school player here. Kind of getting caught up in the buzz about D:U. Haven't posted here in like years, but it's cool to know my login still works. Descent never dies! ANYWAYS... after getting Wingman's attention with a rather "salty" response to what turned out to be a glitch on the Descendant Studious website, I've been reading up a bit on this latest Descent reboot. On that note, I'm guessing that there can be no Dravis as well? He did work for the PTMC after all. No Pyro GX, or PTMC? I was hoping to get to know Dravis before I came to hate working for him, and eventually be betrayed! I'm sure he was always a prick but...

Yeah, I heard about that. We'd tested the gifting system, but nobody went through the registration system. He was pretty upset that some people might have been turned away.

Those can't be key features of the game, because they all belong to Parallax. But there can be references to them.

The game will probably be set enough years in the past that, at best, we'd meet Dravis' grandfather or something.

Parallax and Interplay went through what I describe as "a messy divorce". There's a lot of interpersonal drama and distrust to overcome.

But WingMan's superpower is his ability to get multiple parties with divergent interests to work together. He might eventually get Mike and Matt to buy in (particularly given the hard line he took with Interplay -- they have no creative control.) We're just not to that point yet.

Well it's good that there's a long way to go before release for them to get this stuff figured out.

Maybe I should register on their bulletin boards. With all the games I've been playing lately I've got a few ideas for control configuration I sort of feel like sharing.
